Default St George Public Hospital Kogarah

    Hi ladies!

Hope someone can help me. I'm 7 weeks pregnant. I had my first child at Westmead public and I was happy there. Since then we have moved to Panania and I think the hospital in this area is Bankstown Public. I do have some concerns about this hospital, so have been researching other hospitals in the area. I found good stuff about St George Public and am wondering if I will be able to get in? It's probably 20 - 25 minutes away from us.

Does anyone know what is considered to be "in the area"? If St George Public doesn't accept me, is there another way to get in it?

Thank you so much in advance.

    Phillipa

Default St George Public Hospital Kogarah

I had all my babies at st George public. I had fantastic experience every time but I wouldn't write off a hospital on something you've read or heard. St George public hospital has its own hair raising stories. What exactly about Bankstown is it that worries you?

My hubby worked in Bankstown for 6 years. If you can, stay away from Bankstown hospital. St George has a far better rep and we've had lots of friends have kids there and good experiences. If you can afford it, I'd even recommend the Private hospital in Kogarah. Avoid Bankstown if you can

I had kids @ st George and st George private.

The public wins hands down. A great experience. Ask for the STOMP program if you can.

Thank you everyone for your comments. I'm glad everyone had a good experience at St George Public. It is the Hospital of my choice. I'm just worried that I might be out of area. Do I just call the hospital to find out? Or should I talk to my GP first?

It's likely you'll need a dr referral yes?

I just spoke to my GP and she said I have to go to Bankstown hospital unless I choose a private OB from St George area. And apparently if I go in with a private doctor I'I'll have to pay for the hospital as well. Does anyone know more about it?

Yes this is true that if you have a private OB then you will be treated as a private patient and be charged all the costs associated with this. Do you have private health insurance ?
For what it's worth there are good and bad stories about all hospitals. Perhaps go check out Bankstown maternity before making a decision, they deliver hundreds of babies there yearly
