My DS has a name in the bottom half of the top 50 and it's great. There is no one in his year at school with the same name but he has come across one or two at soccer etc that share his name.

Default How popular is too popular?

Purely because of the larger amount of names to chose from, being in top 100 now is a much smaller number. If that makes sense. I think the days of being one of 8 Jessica's (that's me!) are mostly gone.
It also depends on where you live I reckon.

My daughter is in year 2 at the local public school. There are two year 2 classes at the school (45 students) and there are 4 or 5 Mohammeds in year 2 and three in my daughter's class.

At my school, we have four Caitlins in the year 1/2 classes but they are spelt differently.

Try putting the name in baby name voyager. It gives you a graph of how popular the name is over time.

My daughter is Sienna. Number 21 in the above list and she's the only one at her childcare centre with that name (around 75 kids)

Belly boy bub is in the top 20 in that list. We love the name, so aren't too concerned about its popularity

My DS's name is pretty much always in the top 10, and we haven't met any other kids so far with jis name, and only 1 adult.

My nephew on other had was given án 'uncommon/unusual name, and ended having 3 other kids in his year with the same name...

So I say just pick something you like!

I wouldn't get too hung up on the position of names on a list, just go with one you love. We had our first child's name picked out a while before having her, then when she was about 3 or 4 the name exploded in popularity. Now 8 or so years later the name has drastically dropped off in popularity again.

Funny thing is both my DS's name are not on the list BRV added, but there are more of their names at their school than DD's.

My point is that during the course of your child's life the trends in names are going to change every 5-10 years, which is a lot. What is popular today probably won't be by the time they are in high school, and a name that isn't popular now may well get a come back as well.

I have 3 children in top 50. Only once had another of same name in daycare/school class.
Name your child as you want, you'll be glad later

My daughters name isn't in the top 100 and she goes to daycare with another girl of the same name. My youngest is number 3 and also goes to daycare with another of the same name. Luck of the draw :-)

For me, top 25 is too popular and I personally find the top names a bit boring (no offence to those who chose top 25 names) but at the end of the day you like what you like and the popularity of a name should only bother you if you truly want something very different and not at all common.
