Default The San or Hornsby Maternity

I am just wondering if anyone has thoughts on Hornsby Hospital as a private patient vs The San? I have heard that with its new maternity ward hornsby is now better than The San not sure if it is true I guess its up to personal opinion but if you have any recent experience with Hornsby as private) please let me know. I have a few medical complications and have bee told that it is also likley that I will need a C section not sure if that should make a difference in terms of choosing a hospital.

I have a friend who had 2 children at Hornsby hospital and she had good experiences there as far as I know. Her first was a long labour that ended in a emergency c/s and she was discharged after a couple of days. The second was 2yrs later and a VBAC. She stayed in hospital for a day. It is a recently renovated ward, I think they built it around 2011..?

The SAN maternity is newer and nicer, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's better..

Personally, I've had a bad experience at Hornsby myself but not maternity - just the emergency department and post-surgery stay & follow up. I'm having my baby at the SAN and very happy so far.

Just be aware that at a public hospital you are usually pushed out within a day or two even after a CS (this has happened to a few friends on mine) and they don't like to give pain relief (typically just panadol/voltaren). Those two factors alone put me off. The San is newer but I've never been to Hornsby only in emergency (which is horrible) so can't comment on whether they are better equipped - but I'd be very surprised if a public hospital was better set up than private. Best you go on a tour of each and check it out for yourself!
