    Default Warning.......... Warning.......

This mornig my Ds1 and Ds2 were plying with those glo sticks. You know the ones where you snap them and then they glo in the dark?
Well one snapped in half and the chemical flew out into DS1's eyes.
He was screaming and crying and yelling, he couldnt see.
I threw him straight in the shower to flush his eyes and called an ambulance. His screaming was so bad my neighbours all came to see what was happening.

Anyway, after a little while at the hospy- he can see and isnt in much pain now we are home.
The hospy rang th poisons info line and they said that these things are not toxic.
Well, they ARE!!! Its just that as the chemical is not alkaline based the company doesnt have to list it as toxic as while it wont hurt you if you swallow it, it CAN make you blind if it goes in your eyes.
DS1 was extremely lucky that i got him straight in the shower to flush them out. The ambos said he is extremely lucky to have his sight.

PLEASE be carefull when your kids have theses things. Personally there will never ever be another glo stick in my house.

Children are like wet cement. Whatever falls on them makes an impression Dr Haim Ginott.

well. ya no these never used to be avail to the public. personally I would never give them to my kids. they are chemicals after all and are not super hard to break.

hope your son is alright and I hope this thread makes people keep a closer eye on what they give their kids to play with unsupervised.

sorry to hear about your DS1, glad to hear that he's alright

That is the whole reason why I don't like any kids playing with them, I have heard of some kids going blind or partially blind after getting that stuff in their eyes

I remember the same thing happening to a friend and I once. We broke 'em and was having fun splattering the glow all around in the dark at a disco until it got into our eyes. We had to go to the ambos to get our eyes flushed and yes they hurt like all hell. We had no idea they were dangerous, but I can tell ya now, there is no way my kids will be playing with them.

OMG So glad your boy is ok!! I've seen them get holes in them before when friends kids or my niece have been playing with them, but I'd read the label and knew they weren't toxic, so didn't worry about it.

Thankyou so much for letting us know! I won't be giving them to any kids anymore!

Its not just when they aren't supervised. The kids were less than 2 metres away from me. I was washing up and they were playing on the kitchen floor.
I do fell terribly guilty for it and dont know how i would ever forgive myself if it had of been worse.
