Hi @infinity888. Sorry for the delay but I had to contact my supplier in the U.K who sells Cyprus as I am not familiar with where you are going. She said she had personally inspected the Rocks Hotel about 2 years ago and likes it so good choice
In terms of tourism, there isn't a lot there. She mentioned there are 2 castles worth visiting (Kyrenia and St Hillaron). There is a tourism place in town that can help you so don't feel you need to have tours booked before you leave Australia. She said if you are up for it, hire a car and explore the area as you will see a lot more that way. She said people either hire cars, or hire taxis to take them place and pay the taxi driver to wait and then take them back. I am not sure if you will need an international drivers licence or not. She said you can drive there on a UK licence so they may accept and Australian one. She doesn't feel that anything will be closed and there is lots of great food for you to try. Weather wise it will be around the mid teens.
They should also give you a loose leaf stamped slip to put in your passport when they cross the border (i.e. they won't stamp your passport to say you were ever in North Cyprus). She said generally there is no issue if you do but if you were ever to go to Greece, Greek authorities may not be happy to see a North Cyprus stamp in your passport.
