Default WA Perth IVF question on ICSI

    Hi all

I am currently with Hollywood fertility in perth and have unfortunately had 2 unsuccessful IUIs. I have an upcoming appointment with my doctor to discuss IVF. My husband and i are 30 and have unexplained infertility.

When we had our very first appointment with hollywood the doctor said legally in WA ICSI cannot be used in the the first round of IVF. He said it can only be used if the first round was unsuccessfully. I looked up the state legislation and cant find anything about this.

Has anyone been told this as well?
Or has anyone had unexplained infertility and did ICSI on the first IVF round?

    Looking forward to responses

    Thanks

Hi, I'm from WA and we go through WA Fertility Specialists. We did ICSI first up, but DH has sperm issues. I've never heard of that, and I've no idea why that would be the case. Call another fertility clinic and ask- it seems odd! Good luck with your IVF, you'll get there. X

    Thanks Gypsy

Out of interest how did yoh find FSWA?
I was considering switching if Hollywood were saying no ICSI just to get more business from us... cos that is not cool...

Never heard of that one. We used icsi first time round too due to sperm issues. That was at fertility north who I would not recommend. We later moved to FSWA who rock.

Yeah we did ICSI first time too but we also had male factor infertility to contend with. Traditional IVF would not have been possible for us. I've never heard that ICSI can't be used first up though and I don't know why it wouldn't be allowed? Is there a reason you're looking into it though? If there's no identifiable issue with your hubby's sperm there may be no reason to use it. It is more expensive and I'm not sure if it delivers a higher success rate or not.

Another fan of FSWA here they are amazing. And a big big thumbs down to fertility north too

I switched from Hollywood to Pivet after 2 unsuccessful IVF cycles. They did ICSI straight up for us as DHs count was borderline according to their parameters. I think they like to do mostly ICSI there. Was not impresssed with Hollywood - found them a bit old fashioned, not really willing to look into new protocols etc. Pivet was a revelation & we have had success both In our IVF & FET cycle with them.
Definitely get in touch with another clinic & make some enquiries.

Seems to be the same case here I had icsi first up and DH had no sperm issues just had the one egg unfortunately it didn't fertilise and we left pivet as they weren't what we're looking for we are at FSWA too and cannot recommend them highly enough!! They are also they only clinic in AUS that do IVM! Which I'm lucky enough to have gotten 2 embryos from! I'd look around cause that does not sound right!
Just get your GP to refer you to FSWA!
    Hope things start looking up
