Default How busy is AFL grand final weekend?

So I've stupidly booked a long weekend in Melbourne this weekend Saturday-Tuesday. We are staying in the city and have booked a couple of restaurants for dinners.

Today I realised it is grand final weekend. I hate big crowds, struggle with public transport at the best of times and was hoping for a relaxing stress free weekend away.

Hubby thinks I'm crazy and irrational but I kind of want to cancel.

So Melbourne locals, what do you think? If we go what should we do to avoid the mayhem?

    Don't cancel!
Saturday night will be a bit hectic but the rest of the time will be fine!

It'll be totally fine. Don't go near Richmond station right after the game finishes, otherwise it won't be much different than usual. I used to live in South Yarra and it wasn't very busy if you went further away from the MCG.

I love Melbourne. You'll have a great time. Do you have any specific plans as to where you will go or what you will see?

We love Melbourne, I was just worried about footy fever.

We are booked into a couple of our favourite restaurants and plan to spend a day in the Yarra valley.

    Not sure what else yet.
