Default When to have NT scan?

I'm 11 and a bit weeks pregnant, and have just returned from 3 weeks overseas.

I am wondering when people usually have the NT scan? I thought it was 12 weeks, but did a quick Google search and a lot of people are saying you should at least have the blood test done in preparation at 10 weeks?

I have a doctors appointment on Monday, but by then I'll be 12 weeks. Just wondering whether I should try to move my appointment forward to tomorrow or Friday, if I need to have results of the blood test before I have the scan?

I also want to have the harmony test ... Will my doctor be able to refer me for this or do I need to book it myself?

    Thanks for any help!

Ok. It depends (regarding the NT scan). For instance where I got it done, the bloods were done a week before the scan. There were drs at the scan place who gave the results etc so I did not have to see ob for results.

If you know where you are doing the scan, give them a call and they will tell you. The NT scan can be done from just before 12 weeks I think until just before 14 weeks or so maybe?

    Harmony needs a referral.

Also your NT referral should have blood referral and scan referral.

Are you private? Public? Shared care?

Thank you! So at 11 weeks now, I still have time to get the NT organised then?

I don't know where I'll be having it done yet ... Does the GP usually refer you somewhere or are you usually on your own to find somewhere? I'm going public, and so far have only seen my GP.

Eta: sorry, I just read that properly. Ignore my question about referral - you already answered that

Awful lol. Morning sickness is back with a vengeance, despite taking zofran. I thought it was supposed to get better around this point, not worse haha! Praying for some relief soon.

    Thanks for asking x

And thanks for your help re: the scan

I found MS got worse before getting better. It actually peaked close to 12 weeks and on my last pregnancy was really bad until 18ish weeks where it eased enough to be off zofran.

Just in relation to this, regardless of which company logo is on your referral you can take the referral anywhere. So if cost, convenience or whatever is an issue you can go where suits.

Just checked with DH he is a radiologist and he said you can have the NT scan until 13w6d. Places book out quickly so maybe book it now and let your GP know when and where it is.

If you have the harmony test you might not need to do an NT blood test. I only did the harmony test and then an early morph scan. So the harmony test was around 11 weeks and then the morph scan was around 12-13 weeks from memory

@witherwings NT shows things that harmony wouldn't and you can't have a morph scan before 18 weeks.

This option might cause an issue to be missed at 12 weeks that could be fix or monitored and actually risk the bubs or mums health. Sadly unsurvivable or life limiting abnormalities are found on NT scans and termination is much more straight forward at 12 weeks than 20.
@Shoopuf, I'm sure your NT scan will show a happy healthy baby, just don't want you to be misinformed.

I'm the same as @witherwings... My ob recommended NIPT and a scan, I assume like a morph scsn checking for physical abnormalities at 13 weeks. Apparently that's the standard procedure at the women's specialist scan clinic I'm having to go through.
