Had a look and there is a newborn upfront payment and newborn supplement. It may just be the upfront bit.

I keep reading different things, some people are saying the baby bonus is different from the newborn upfront payment and supplement? I was under the impression that the baby bonus was $1000 payment.
I also read that the baby bonus the media is referring to hadn't even actually come into effect yet anyway so I don't know wtf is going on!

The upfront bit is only about $500, so I don't even know where they get this $1000 baby bonus from

I'd say the only way we are going to find out the correct answer to all this is to give centrelink a call tomorrow. Anyone want to volunteer to sit on hold for 2 hours and report back to this thread? 😂

The PPL is still there. Is that what you mean?

The baby bonus was changed a few years ago to the newborn suppliment.
I recieved baby bonus for my firstborn in dec 2013 which was $5000 payed over so many weeks. With my second born in Jan 2015 it had been changed to newborn suppliment which was $1000. $500 payed upfront and the the remaining $500 over so many weeks. Both of these you were entitled to family tax benefit while receiving. If they have cut anything it will be the newborn suppliment, i hope there is some alternative payment you can recieve, I have worked my guts out this pregnancy to get Payed parental leave from Centrelink so would be LIVID if that was cut. I would definitely call and say you are a single parent family that may change things also.

"The reintroduction of the baby bonus had reportedly been a major part of the terms set out by the Nationals when striking a new Coalition agreement with the Liberal Party in September. Fairfax reported at least one Nationals MP had been surprised that the baby bonus had been scrapped in the bill."

This makes it sounds like that the baby bonus they're speaking of being cut hadn't actually been implemented yet? So maybe they aren't referring to the newborn supplement?
