Welcome to all the new ladies! X
Hope I am doing this right this is the first forum I have joined and I hope I can join the over 40's thread. My names is Jo and we are starting IVF well hopefully starting a cycle soon. We have undergone multiple tests including genetic tests through MYIVF but after 6 months of tests etc... have been told we do not fit their parameters my partners sperm count is too low so have been referred to their sister clinic Monash IVF.
The question I have which I hope is okay to ask is how much does it cost on average to do a cycle at other clinics as one cycle at Monash will be approx. $9000 out of pocket without the safety net rebate - will have to ring Medicare to find out how much more we get back. Just feeling disappointed as MYIVF was going to be about half this out of pocket without the safety net rebate. We would not put a price on having a baby but we could do 2 cycles at MYIVF for the cost of one at Monash. So far the only issues we have are the sperm count and motility and my age, everything else is good .
We just want to start but want to find the best fit for us.

Welcome @Spazzyp and @Dotty27 :-) these lasies are all lovely and we can all help you with all the questions and crazy emotional stuff. Feel free to ask anything, i reckon.
@Maxwellsmum and @Billie2 yes, i too was so naive. Thought id be thinking about going back for my 2nd own egg baby by now. But i dont think naive is the same as stupid. In my town of like, 7000 people i have 1 friend who has 2 kids from 1 round of ivf and another friend with 2 kids from 1 cycle and EIGHT embys still in the freezer. That was all i knew about real life people who'd done ivf, so i figured my experience would be similar. IVF does work for ao many people, which is what makes it so hard to accept that its not gonna be that easy for you. And for me personally, starting ivf at 34 my fs said my prospects were pretty good. I remember asking the nurse if peopke end up walking away without a baby and she said "not many people end up like that". Little did i know that i would be one of those few ladies 2 years later. xox
I just told dh about icing his balls. He said, "Im glad we didnt go to wazza. Id rather fly half way around the world to jerk off in a foreign country after a 25 hour flight."
Welcome @Dotty27. The cost of IVF can be horrendous and not all clinics or fertility specialists are created equal. We did 3 cycles with our first FS and that was a total waste of money, so with hindsight we'd have been better going straight to our second FS, but we didn't know about him at the time. They were both with the same clinic, so same cost per cycle. With the cheaper clinics, some just wouldn't offer the services you need, so I'd think that would be a waste for you (I think we had similar issues).
Costs seem to vary state to state, so it will depend where you are. We're in Queensland and it seems to be cheaper than Melbourne at least. Drugs are generally covered by PBS, so they should be the same cost. It will also depend if you need ICSI and possible PICSI/HA-ICSI as the extras can add up and the cost of any extras can vary between clinics, with some things being cheaper at one and vice versa.
With Medicare the first cycle per calendar year is also more expensive until you reach the safety net. So a cycle would cost us $7860 and with the full safety net we got back $5341.90, plus we had ICSI for $800 and we got back $526.10 and PICSI $200 ? I think (no refund) and Embryoscope $495 (no refund). For the first cycle in a calendar year it was about $500-800 more as we got less back from Medicare.
Good luck with your decision making.
LillyM he recommends it for everyone. We did 5 cycles with Wazza in 6 months and found that we got much better results on the last cycle, so we'd both been on supplements and DH had been icing for 6 months. Some of the supplements take 4-6 months to really take effect (Co-Q10 and DHEA I think). DH continued to ice through until heartbeat was detected and wore boxers until we reached the end of the first trimester. We also used PICSI for the last 4 cycles and that improved fert rate and number/quality of day 5 embryos significantly.
