    Default fussy on bottles

My DD is now 6 months old and weighs in at a healthy 8.8kg. The last 4 weeks we have had a hard time making her drink her bottles - she is on 240ml every 4 hours.
She has 2 lots of solids a day and is pretty good at eating these.

My main problemn is that she keeos waking up at between 2 - 5am every morning and instead of trying settling techniques I feel I have to feed her because she may be starving, this doesn't help my cause for getting her back to sleeping through.

    Any suggestions?

    Dear Holly,

6 months old can be a tricky time for parents and bubs as they adjust to new feeding routines and interruptions such as teething. Your daughter should be having approximately 100-120mL of formula / kg of weight each day – which she is exceeding at the moment. You may be encountering difficulties with bottles at the moment as she may need a faster-flowing teat.

It is hard to say why she is waking. Perhaps if her routine has been different, and she began a pattern of waking a few weeks ago as she was legitimately becoming hungry, this may just be persisting.

To ensure that hunger isn’t an issue, is it possible to offer her an extra solids meal in the day? It may only be a few spoonfuls, but the addition of dinner to her routine may make a difference.

Consider also the types of foods that you are feeding her. Her recent poor sleep may also be related to a food intolerance if you are in the stage of trying different foods.

If all of this doesn’t make much difference, she is having as much formula and solids during the day as she will take and has the medical all-clear from your doctor or CHN, then some tough love and sleep settling techniques may be exactly what are required.
