Default Share the dignity - would you have said anything?

So I've seen a lot about the 'share the dignity' campaign recently and have contributed for it myself, as I assume most women have.

So today I was at the gym, and they have been collecting for the cause as well, there is a washing basket at the entrance to the ladies toilet which you can put sanitary products into.

Anyway, a lady came in, spotted the basket at the door, rummaged around in it, took out a pack of pads and then quickly put them in the locker she was using.

Just curious as to what others would have done / said? (If anything?)

I realise sanitary products are for ALL women, and this campaign is exactly about sharing the dignity, but I was under the impression it was mainly for homeless women / women in need?

I realise maybe she could have been a woman in need, so I didn't say anything myself, but suppose she isn't? Suppose she didn't know who they were actually for and assumed it was just something nice the gym was doing? (There are signs up but she didn't read them). Would you say something to let her know? Or would you just let it go?

    Just curious.

I would not have said anything to the woman, she might have been caught without her own supply. I think I might mention to the staff, so they can perhaps bring attention to the signs or the campaign or something. Or perhaps they can move the basket, not have it in the toilet area so, if anyone was to be just helping themselves, they would notice. or perhaps they might need to empty the basket more often. ? marie.

I would figure that if she went to the trouble of taking a packet then she or somebody she knows obviously needed them so would not have said anything, would be a non-issue to me.

Who knows, she may well know someone who is homeless or who is struggling, you just never know.

I probably wouldn't have said anything. She may have been caught out at the gym and embarrassed and needed something quickly. Or maybe she's super broke this week. I know when I'm doing the shopping budget I'm always thinking "I wish I didn't get a period, they're bloody expensive" ha

Nah I wouldn't have said anything either. I would have assumed she made a mistake or that she was running low on funds.

You guys r more forgiving than me.

But I'm thinking if she can afford gym membership or $20/class, she can afford a pack of tampons.

I would have the gym management, and asked them to do up a sign that it is a collection for homeless people, not 'free to a good home'.

    Poor form I reckon.

I'm not sure I would have said anything, but it doesn't sit well with me.

The donations are for the homeless, not for women using the gym.

Even if I needed to use one right then and there, I still wouldn't help myself to the basket.

I wouldn't have said anything, as we don't know the full circumstances. She may have been caught off guard with an early AF/particularly heavy. I think we've all been there. She may have paid her membership but this pay was hit with a huge electricity bill and is flat broke.

Personally, I'd still judge a little bit to either of the above scenarios, the pads are for homeless women. But unless I really knew her story well, no I would not have said anything.
