Default Valtrex in third trimester HSV1

Wonder who has taken Valtrex during any part of their pregnancy or past pregancy. I'm going to ask my doctor about it again as this is my 3rd outbrake in 2 month which after not having them for so long I'm finding them hard to deal with as they are getting worse and as I get closer to bubs arrival im worried I'll end up with 1 around birth time. I realise cold sores are not as worring as genital herpes during birth but newborn + crap feeling isn't going to be amazing either.

Default Valtrex in third trimester HSV1

I have has acyclovir in my first pregnancy and famcyclovir in my second, they generally don't prescribe Valtrex even though it's exactly the same as famcyclovir because the brand name Valtrex hasn't been assessed for pregnancy, both my kids have been fine, I have hsv1 as well. Some Drs will refuse to prescribe it during pregnancy so just shop around for one who will. I took them for the last 6 weeks, thy aren't recommend earlier than that because they can inhibit growth. Neonatal herpes can be very dangerous and it's possible to transfer it via kissing so it's very reasonable to request antivirals if you have active outbreaks.

    Thank you for your reply
All very helpful to know, the thought of spreading it to Bub is scary. I didn't have these issues with my first so didn't worry to much about it
