Default OMG Sore throat so painful for over a week.

    Can anyone help me.
I had the flu a couple of weeks ago. It cleared up all good.
For the last week if lve had a sore throat and its not getting any better. I went to the docs expecting a tonsillitis or strep diagnosis but all he said was ' it'll get better by itself. Take some pain killers'. Over the last two days ive had 8 codine/asprin tablets, 8 400mg tablets of neurofen, 4 panadol, 16 numbing strepsils and 8 regular strepsils. And I even took half an oxycodon tablet (left over from surgery I had). And im STILL in pain. I cant swallow...im spitting in a cup (eww). I can barely eat or talk.

Id go back for a second opinion to be honest, sounds like a bacterial infection.

Yeah, I'd go back. That sounds like a lot of medication to take with no relief. And you've had it for a week. Try to see a different doctor?

Did the doctor even look at your throat? That sounds like an infection, definitely try and get a second opinion tomorrow.

The doctor said my throat is red and my glands we're up 'thats for sure' but just said take some pain killers and drink plenty of fluids...thats all well and good but when its hard to even swallow water its hard.

It feels like im swallowing glass and acid when i swallow. Ive never had a sore throat like this before. I made the mistake of having a mouthful of coke the other day...felt like fire and acid.

Go to another doctor and get a second opinion.

If all those painkillers aren't working maybe try the ED and explain what you have taken and you have gotten no relief.

Watch the amount of paracetamol you are having!
