Default Father's Day gift ideas for soon-to-be new dad?

Looking for some ideas for a Father's Day gift for DH, I'm due in November and want to get him something special but not the usual mug or t-shirt he'll probably never use.

I'm thinking something practical that he'll use as a new dad but also want it to be sentimental/special. Is there such a thing?

Some books to read to baby. Maybe ask his mum what his favorite childhood book was.

We always do a book from each child for Fathers Day. Big W etc always have a selection of Fathers Day titles in picture books. We write a message inside the cover that becomes part of the story when we read it each time. Once the boys are old enough they can write their own name and message. So they become special sentimental books that we will keep when other things loose their meaning as the kids grow older. Books don't take up much space inside the keepsake box once they aren't being read anymore. Not sure what we will do once the kids are older but they are only 2 and 5 so we have a few years yet before we have to worry about that.

A book is such a great idea! Thanks for the suggestion, I'll have to start looking out for something. My husband is a surfer so maybe I can find something beach related to add that personal touch 😊

My DD was already 2 months old for Father's Day last year so slightly different but I got my DH an awesome dad mug plus a board book called daddy's cheeky monkey he could read to her, a photo frame with a pic of her in it, a onesie from next that said I love daddy on it and a gardening book. For his birthday this year DD and I painted a canvas together. It looks terrible but the thought counts!
Next have cute daddy and me bodysuits and onesies at the moment.

I got my husband a "Daddy survival kit" for his first Father's Day. So basically a hamper full of funny/cute things. Similar to this. But had plenty of practical stuff too.

This is what I'm thinking of doing too now, after the girls in my DIG suggested it. I've found some really cool things to put in it on Etsy. Just got to narrow it down to stuff I can get in Australia since time is getting away from me!
