Default Wwyd? Trade car in or keep

Long story short we are a single car household and need a new ( to us) car. We have coped with 1 car but will need a 2nd car before our 1st starts school in 4 years. The convince of 2 cars would be handy.
New car is needed as family is expanding ( will ttc for #3 in a few months).

our current car is 13 years old and starting to show signs it will have costly repairs soon ( cost more than the cars worth). Fuel economy is 13/14L per 100km. It's also 6 cylinder so rego is more.

Option 1 is get new car and keep existing and just drive until it dies and be a 2 car family now

Option 2 trade it in ( only likely to get 2k) and remain single car until we need a 2nd

Are you coping with 1 car at the moment? Do you really need the extra $2k?

If you are coping with 1 car I'd trade and use the money you would pay on insurance/rego for the second car to save up for the next one in a few years.

yeah I'd trade. the car you currently have sounds like a potential money pit. I'd take the $2k for it while you can and before you need to waste any more money on it. stay 1 car for as long as you can. you can always get a second car down the track when you actually need it.

I'd trade it in and stay with one car if it's working for you currently.

We only have one car and will need another when our eldest goes to school, but we did the above when we upgraded. It wasn't worth the cost of upkeep with the older car, 2 x rego and insurance etc. We'll just buy a cheaper second car when the time comes.
