ANGRY! The census this year will not allow same sex parents to select 'mother & mother' option when filling out the form in respect to their child or children.

Apparently the ABS encourages one mother to select the father option as the only way to include information from both parents. This is disgusting in this day and age. I think this warrants a reason to argue about not filling it out!

It's purpose is to learn about shaping Australia's future and to learn about current families, how will this information be accurate if we are forced to lie on the form? I'm lying by saying my child's other parent is the father! So shouldn't I be penalised as I am providing misleading information!?

Really, @TandR? Maybe we need to request a paper form? We could put mother and mother on that.

I believe that's the only way around it.

I just can't believe that we still have to take this approach for our families to be recognised.

Thanks for that, @TandR. That's outrageous.

The ABS is giving inconsistent advice too, given what they told @catemer above (that second parent should be donor info).

The census is going to get really poor data re same sex families! How hard would it be to add in options reflecting all family types??

No problem. I'm glad I came across it! It's such a kick in the gut!

Amazing how DP and I can both be recognised on DD's birth cert as mother and mother, but can't for the census.

I'm surprised that so many people are worried about their privacy, I have read a few fb posts which seems rather ironic to me.
The people I know who are complaining seem to be those who put their entire lives on Facebook for all to read.

Or recognised for tax purposes... You know, whatever benefits the government right?

This country is so ******* backwards in some respects.
