Default How long did you keep your embryos?

    Hi ladies,
We had our 13 month old DD via IVF and have 2 x 5 day embryos in storage. We are both 99.99999% sure that we do not want to have another child for multiple reasons. I am very doubtful that we will change our minds but on the very very small chance that we might I'm going to keep our embryos for a while longer. The storage fee at our clinic is $500 a year and it's up for renewal this month. Don't get me started on that ridiculous fee.
I'm wondering how long others have kept their embryos for even after deciding not to have more babies? The clinic (might be legislation) has a 10 year time limit on embryo storage I believe. I don't think we'll keep them that long but no idea when to let them go.
    Thanks

I have 5 embryos in the freezer had my 2nd dd almost a year ago and I am pretty sure I don't want anymore. However I am keeping them in case I have a brain snap and decide to go again. Our storage fee is only around 300 or at least it was

Oh and I think I will only be keeping them for another 5 years as I am 35 and I don't want to be having babies at 40 34 was hard enough ha ha

If you are questioning then I would say you aren't ready to make a firm decision just yet. I would probably pay at least another year just to be super sure

We are 99.99999% sure we are done but I recently paid for 3 more years storage. I don't think rational comes in to my thinking when it comes to the embryos :-/

Yes it's such a hard call isn't it. I think I'll keep paying it every year for a while.

It's a hard call. But I would freeze for a couple of years just in case you change your mind as you may have regrets if you don't and realise this down the track. At our clinic it was $625 and that was only for 6 months but have non left though now but have a new DS

Also hope your coping ok so far with your DP being away for work. xo

Default How long did you keep your embryos?

I am grappling with exactly this. We have 11 (😱) frozen embryos our storage fees are $500 a year.

So DS2 was IVF and will be 4 in October. I am 36+6 with completely unexpected and unplanned natural pregnancy (DS3). I was inning and ahhing about whether I wanted more before this pregnancy. I am now 100% sure I do not want more - at 43 I am so done!

But I just can't seem to let go of my precious embies. The pain and tears associated with them doesn't go away. So for now we are still paying.

As pp have said if you have doubts don't go anything. Your DD is still very young you may feel differently once she is more independent.

Wow 11 @binnielici! Have you thought about donating your embryos? I'm certain there are some fabulous couples out there who would love them

I know 11 - it took 15 to get DS2 so it never really seemed like a lot at the time.

We have discussed donation but DH is not comfortable and I have to respect that. For the moment we will be hanging on to them. It's a very difficult decision to make - amongst the multitude of difficult decisions people face doing IVF. It never ends!!
