What matters with the nearby option is to check where in the list the Pokemon is. The one at the top left are the closest and the one at bottom right are the furthest. So walk in different direction and see if their position are moving towards top left. If it is you are getting closer!!

I feel pretty clever for having dropped a strong Pokemon at a gym this morning. The gym is in a smaller zoo and won't get much traffic until the wkd. Plus it's closed all night so my spot is safe until 10am
Unless a zoo keeper is a player from the opposite teams
@ExcuseMyFrench I was watching a bulbasor and it was the top left and I walked like 500m in each direction and it never got closer then 3 steps on the image!

@caketin that happens to me too. Everything is 3 steps away. I did read that when a new one appears in your list, head fir 5he floating leaves you see on your map as it should be around there. i tried it out the other night and it worked

3 steps won't change - it's broken - what matters is the position of the Pokemon you are chasing in the "nearby" list

The one at the top left is the closest. So just keep the list open and walk around until you see the Pokemon position moving towards top left. Then you know you're on the right track.

I caught 2 pikachus like that tonight and they never were less than 3 steps

I hatched this little fella tonight. My first hatch. I was at a meeting at school and sent it to the kids because I was very proud. I got home all excited and they didn't even care So not helping them hunt ever again

Ah ok 3 steps are broken! Only leaves rustling around I got as close as I could but would have ended in my neighbours backyard if I got closer

My husband had so many appear on his phone and I don't seem to get many. He's like level 11 though!
