Before you try to shut down freedom of speech because you don't agree with the sentiments, think about what the ramifications of that is for our society. While we shouldn't discriminate based on colour or religion, we should be able to question the behaviours of groups regardless of their colour or religion.
That's ridiculously unfair. To take opinions that don't agree with yours and boil it down to "a competition to see who can be the most compassionate and most loving" is completely disregarding the validity of our view point. I'm not competing with anyone. I just don't agree with using free speech as a mask for hatred.

Default Sonia Kruger - glass house?

I'm not trying to curb free speech, c'mon. It's that I simply believe that this type of conversation you or SK believe needs to be opened is actually one of the reasons terrorism attacks happen, not get stopped. These types of conversations breed hate, spread ignorance, and help create more disillusionment and isolation among a whole people--which is the problem that organizations like IS feed off of. Because I am scared of something like what happened in Nice happening again is the reason I believe we should ensure the RIGHT conversation is happening. Not giving people like Trump or Hansen or IS more fuel.

Absolutely, well said. As I said earlier, it's great to open a discussion on certain topics, especially when so many people are scared. But what I don't agree with, is using your position in the media to spew hate.

It just generates fear even further. Which is not what anyone needs right now

And I think the point needs to be made that France isn't seeing these attacks because of immigration, it is seeing these attacks because it has a vast majority of its Muslim population living in poverty and experiencing racism, a perfect breeding ground for angry individuals that turn to IS.

Part of me wants to say "sure, let's have the awkward conversation" and then ignorant people can be better educated. BUT the rational part of me is well aware you can't convince some people, even when you have all the facts that don't support them (think global warming)

Using that line of thinking though we should have had grave concerns about the number of Catholics migrating to and living Australia when the IRA were at their peak. Surely given that the IRA were purportedly acting on behalf of Catholics, we should have viewed Australia's huge Catholic population with suspicion and curbed migration.

If you think my statements are ridiculous, I would encourage you to reexamine your own regarding the Muslim population in Australia.
