@GingerKat, which particular parts of the Quran are preaching hate? The word Islam is actually derived from the word peace. These are two direct quotes which show how peaceful and tolerant the actual words of the Quran are:

“O You who believe! Enter absolutely into peace (Islam). Do not follow in the footsteps of satan. He is an outright enemy to you.” (Holy Quran: 2, 208)

God does not forbid you from being good to those who have not fought you in the religion or driven you from your homes, or from being just towards them. God loves those who are just.” (Surat al-Mumtahana, 8)

This reminds me of a saying I've always liked. "You can make decisions from a place of fear or from a place of love." I choose to make my decisions from a place of love.

You know, Daesh was created (indirectly), trained and funded by the USA (and several other countries). They helped create rebels. And when you invade a country, leaving weaponry and soldiers trained to slaughter people and then withdraw your forces without dealing with the thing you created, it is going to cause some serious unrest. USA used Saddam Hussein, Al-Qaeda, Osama Bin Laden and Daesh to their advantage when it suited them. With complete disregard (maybe unintentional. I don't have that kind of faith though) for the citizens of the countries they were invading.

And now there is all this fear-mongering and people further ostracizing completely innocent people (because terrorists who identify themselves as Muslim really only make a tiny percentage of the Muslim population).

And people need to not kid themselves...white people have committed many acts of terrorism...it's just not called terrorism because they're white and they are not associated with Daesh.

It's a shame that Muslim extremists don't share your sentiments

Default Sonia Kruger - glass house?

    1) there is a growing number of people in Australia that agree with her (therefore isn't it appropriate that we at least talk about this without throwing around the words racist and xenophobic?)
    2) we need to have an honest discussion about terrorism and how we can prevent it from happening in Australia.
Now we all know that not all Muslims are terrorists. Duh. However 95% of terrorist attacks committed are by Muslims. I have read parts of the Koran and I have *one* Muslim friend who I talk to regularly about the Muslim faith. I am not ashamed to say I don't like the Muslim religion. Likewise I don't like the Catholic religion. But to me the Muslim religion is particularly ********, and preaches hate. Of course it is all in the eye of the beholder, my friend certainly doesn't view her faith that way. But there seems to be something about their religion that inspires young men to go and blow themselves and innocent people up. In their own countries and now in ours. Is it so hard to understand that this scares/upsets/angers western society? I dare say that Sonia has taken keen interest in the events in Europe and doesn't want any of that happening here. And neither do I!!! Can you discriminate against an entire religion? That wouldn't be the best way to go, but it still deserves a discussion. I don't have the answer, but I can understand the fear because I feel it to. Why do you think the UK left the EU? I'm positive that it had a lot to do with immigration. You can argue as much as you like but there is something about the Muslim religion that is devisive.
95% of terrorist attacks in the western world are caused by Muslims? Would love to see where that statistic came from?
I can tell you the majority of peadophiles are men , the majority of murderers are all men so does that mean should we ban all men from living in our society - no - but that's how ludicrous Sonia's banning Muslims from coming to Australia sounds

It is the radical followers of any religion that cause the most harm not an entire religion , I can quote you horrid passages from any religious text ( Old Testament has some crackers!) plus no one can really interpret text from any religious book properly without actually knowing all about the background and translations - my Jewish grandmother hated the way the Christians misinterpreted the Old Testament as they turned it into how they wanted it to read - not how it was actually written so be careful in believing a few passages from a book that you really don't understand properly

I think the fear/focus should be directed toward positive changes in society, education, acceptance and integration. People don't become radicalised when they feel they are valued and included in society.
I haven't read the whole thread yet, but you are spot on.
If anyone is interested in this there is an episode of the podcast Invisibilia about Denmark successfully using inclusion and helping their Muslim community to diffuse radicalisation. It works!
