Default Gift for friend in hospital

I'm looking for ideas to make a little box up for a friend (late 50s) who will be in hospital for 2 weeks following surgery. We will be visiting her a few days after her surgery. I will be making her a little sampling of her favourite 'treats' I make her (truffles and a few small tarts) I was thinking of getting her some funny socks and maybe a puzzle magazine and pen. Is there anything else you would add or any ideas to follow on from what I'm thinking?
We will also buy her flowers.

    Thanks!

From someone who spent 3.5 weeks in hospital - snacks are everything!

    Magazines were also most welcome.

Great ideas! How about a light hearted novel- Marian Keyes or something like that. Its great to have a novel that takes you away from things.
