    Default WTH...car licencing cost

Just got my car licence renewal and because of this new 'catastrophic injury' insurance my rego is now nearly $400 for 6 months.

    That's insane.

    We have two cars.

How are people going to afford this??

That seems normal to me? We paid $970 approx for 12 months for one car.

Eta - that includes ctp though I guess

Do you mean your car registration?
We just got our rego renewal papers and it's about $250 for registration and $300 for green slip for 6 months.

It always sucks to be paying more, but I think the bigger question is - how can people who are catastrophically injured in a car accident afford it, if there's no insurance scheme?

I would assume it is the insurance that has increased? If so, shop around a bit. There may be a slightly cheaper one.

Otherwise that is fairly standard for rego/insurance for us. We have 2 cars too.

Is that with a green slip? Because if so that's a normal amount. From memory I pay around $900ish for 12 months with green slip.

Which state are you in? If nsw then there is an independent green slip calculator run by the government agency who regulates green slips, it's really good at getting you the lowest price and if you need to ring them they're very helpful http://www.greenslips.nsw.gov.au/

    In NSW mine is:

    CTP: $860
    Car rego: $500

Plus comprehensive insurance which is $700/annum

We have two cars, the second is $720 CTP, $300 rego and $400/yr insurance. It's totally prohibitive!

I think WA has a lot cheaper rego than the rest of you. We dont have green slips. You can just pay 3 monthly 6 monthly or yearly. Its usually only about 400 bucks for the year.
