    Default Documentary appreciation thread

I thought it would be good to start a chat thread for those who love documentaries!

A place to discuss what we've watched lately, recommend favourite docos and general documentary chat.

Also, a place to alert each other to something interesting that might be coming up on TV (SBS/ABC or Netflix/Stan).

I watched The Imposter last night (Stan), and at the moment we're watching a series on Stan called Behind The Mask - it's about sporting team mascots.

Some docos I've enjoyed and would recommend - Senna, Blackfish, All This Mayhem, Amy, Spellbound, Babies. I also love anything by Louis Theroux.

Awesome thread!! Docos are our favourite thing to watch in this house.
I love the long way down and long way round by Ewan Mcgregor and Charley Boorman and have the box set so I can rewatch and get depressed that we aren't travelling for a while.
Anything by David Attenborough, especially his very old work.
    Anything about Africa.
Also love the se.x/relationship docos that are often on abc2 on Friday nights and Ross Kemp's docos.
Slow Train Through Africa was excellent.
And we also enjoyed the series Toughest Place To Be A...
ETA and of course love Louis Theroux. His way of taking the p!ss while coming across earnestly interested is perfect. My favourites are probably the two he did on the westboro baptist church
A good Aussie doco about young people and sexuality was broadcast a couple of years ago called love and sex in the age of pornography. Highly recommend it.

Oh Louis Theroux is a nerdy dream boat. He's coming here in September, wish I could afford tickets.

I don't have Netflix or Stan or anything so can't comment on any shown on there but I watch lots of free to air docos. Do you like Ross Kemp? Monday nights are my favourite because there's Louis followed by Ross.
I also love any crime related docos, all of the jail themed ones and will pretty much watch any biography. Love a good adult documentary, too, I find people very fascinating! I remember watching a series on the working girls in window boxes in Europe and another one about an Australian brothel.

    Yeah, I dig this thread

ETA- war docos are a favourite, too, especially WWll.

    My recommendations;

    - Stop at Nothing (Lance Armstrong) Netflix
    - Going Clear (Scientology) Presto
    - Chelsea Does- Netflix
    - Chef's Table- Netflix
    - Steve Jobs: Man in the Machine - Presto

DH has been watching maths documentaries, but I zone out of those

Oh yes, I have a Louis crush too

I do like Ross Kemp - his subject matter is usually quite heavy. I recall one time he was in the jungle and some guy threatened to shoot him and the way Ross stood up to him was so ballsy He's one tough dude.

The way he kept his cool in the jungle was unreal! I would have needed an clean pair of underwear 😯

I'm in! I love docos. DF isn't overly interested (he thinks I'm a nerd 🙄), so happy I've found people to discuss them with.

Will post list of good docos later.
