I learnt a very long time ago that largely in our country the worth of a person isn't measured by their politics. Most people hold views that are harmless (leaving aside hateful racist or homophobic views). Having an opinion about the economy etc doesn't mean they can actually do anything.

As a labor voter I'm not responsible for that nightmare Mark Latham same as I don't hold every liberal voter responsible for Tony Abbott.

My understanding is that 8,000 people will lose their jobs. A hell of a lot more people have lost their jobs due to the mining boom ending. I think the money the government was pouring into the car industry would be better spent on building infrastructure / eduction / health etc. it probably didn't get channeled that way though.

I know what you mean. I guess with parenting decisions, for most things, I'm a live and let live kind of person - each to their own - if someone's looking after their kids ok, how they do it largely doesn't worry me.

But with political things - I think some views are just so clearly wrong (in my opinion) that it's hard to look past them.

But I'm sure I'll come together in agreement again with everyone again in other posts, that's just how it goes

I have seen her fight tooth and nail for support for those with mental illness and drug problems. She come accross as not being a professor but knowing enough to understand her constituents needs. Haven't heard her speak on race though.

Clive Palmer is the MP for my electorate. Well was, he quit. I'm nominating him as worst pollie of all time.

    Yep, that's true too.

I think I'll be happier (and sadder) when the election's all done and dusted.

I think I'm dreading the plebiscite the most and all the bigotry that will unleash.

Like @rainbowroad, I'm just grateful my DS won't be old enough to understand it.
