Default Fertility Specialist – Public or Private?

Hi Ladies, just wondering if anyone knows how long the waiting time is to see a Public Fertility Specialist?

I have a referral from my Doctor but I haven’t got Private Insurance, and have been advised that the waiting period is 12 months until I can make a claim. I am wondering if it’s worthwhile getting that ball rolling now?

Would love to hear your opinions and stories xx

I put in a referral for a public gynae and only waited a month to be seen. It depends what problems you have.

Thanks @Mamasupial 1 month is pretty good. My issues is blocked tubes, so might need to have them flushed. I was worried it would be like 6-12 months

I swa a private Gynae before my waiting period was up. I needed to have a Lap right away so she referred me to the public hospital where I only had to wait about 8 weeks. I had my flush done as part of my Lap.

Will depend on what state your in. But if you have that referral get in and get the ball rolling for sure as you don't want to sit on it and let it wait.

Get ur private anyway, if things take time at least u will have soon and even if u get preg straight away u might be covered by time birth happens. If u see private guy that does both that seems to be the best way of getting assessed and hopefully faster into public list if needed

We went private and to be honest even private you get most back on Medicare for example my follow up appt are $95 each time but I get $66 back on Medicare so I'm really only out 29 and that's a private gyno and FS.. So worth it to go private.
