    Default Woman-positive movies

It frustrates me that in most main****** movies and tv shows female characters are typically an extension of the male characters and their role is PURELY to benefit said male's role and character development. I'm not even going to get into how the female character roles drive me insane in themselves. It really ruins a lot of popular shows etc for me.
I always worry about the kinds of role models and lessons my children (boy or girl) will see in movies etc too (expectant mother).
In saying that, can folk make some suggestions of movies/tv shows etc in which women/female characters aren't a complete joke? Good characters in their own right with interesting (and/or funny) storylines.
    (No victim/revenge movies please)

    Love The Blind Side.
Also like The Help, Skeeter is a strong female when often back then females didnt get to have an opinion.
    Erin Brokoovich is also good.
I liked the character Kate Winslet played in The Dressmaker
There are a few others I enjoy I just cant think of them atm

Brave is good for kids with a female lead. Although it's Disney, so it's not perfect. Hard to get rid of so many years of princesses relying on their "prince" I suppose. 😉

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (TV show). All the females in it are strong characters. Joss Whedon was once asked why he writes such strong female characters and answered because you're still asking that question. 😄

Studio Ghibli movies have some pretty awesome female main characters!

Orange is the New Black was praised as being a female-centric show where the characters are obviously not in traditional female roles. (Some of the characters are still pretty reprehensible- but they're supposed to be, because they're criminals!)

Bridget Jones' Diary. She starts out as a women with such low self worth, desperately wanting to fit with what a 'good' woman is. She ends up strong, with self confidence and a refusal to settle for a guy that is just settling on her.
