Having to leave the house in order to rent a movie to watch at home. And the pain of late fees when you forget to return it the next day!

Street directories. Phone books. Having to go to the shops to buy things and if they didn't have them you couldn't just order them online. Cassingles and CD singles. Dot matrix printers. Mobile phones that only needed charging weekly. Cheque books.

So I'm staying at my mum's for a couple of days while our house is painted, and she only has regular TV. We have foxtel IQ at home, so DS has never watched ads. Last night we were watching a movie and every time the ads can't on he would freak out saying "make it stop mummy! I just want my movie! Put movie back on!". Haha, poor kid just didn't understand 😅

It made me think about how there are so many things that we grew up with that our kids will just never get - ads on tv, having to get up to change the channel, talking on the phone and having to stay in one spot because it had a cord attached.

What will your kids never "get" that was just part of life for you growing up?
OMG. ..I must be so behind the times! So many of these things we still do...watch ads, get up to change channel (remote long lost and I haven't bothered to replace) and staying in one spot...because mobile reception will drop out otherwise!
But yes...lots of things I have to explain to my kids. ..but probably no different to what my mother had to explain to me ☺

Like a pp, we must be behind too! Regular TV (though mostly watch ABC), get up to change channel (have to hide remote from ds), we still check the mailbox (though don't get a lot of snail mail), ds flipped through the phonebook before we threw it out.

But he definitely won't understand dial up internet, landline phones etc.

Actually, DD is learning this after my DS bought 70 VHS videos at the market for 10c each! There's some gems like The Tweenies (not sure who'd remember that, I had my first bub in 1999 so it was big back in the early 2000's), Stuart Little, Mr Men, Maisy, original Blues Clues, Shrek and many more
And paying a late fee when you forget to rewind the video before taking it back!

I used a pay phone the other day. DD just looked at me strangely and said why is there a phone outside.

I currently work with someone who has never seen a floppy disk - she's in her 20's!
