thanks, yes I'll see how he goes. if he likes being on a lead. my sis' cat is a bit like a dog - he comes when you call him and trots beside you. though she said they tried putting a harness for a lead on him once and he scratched & clawed so they never tried it again. will see if Mister P is a dog-cat too. good points about the sleep and advantages of being an indoor cat.

@Blossom74 & @BlondeinBrisvegas I'm not 100% sure but the pamphlet seems to suggest the hamsters are injected with human genes and then they take the chems from their ovaries, which would mean killing them. I can't get a proper answer via Dr Google so might ask my FS although I don't think I'll like the answer. Feeling so drained anyway and now this could be the straw that decides I go to DE. Even then I'll have to check what meds they would give the donor.

She doesn't try to run out but has escaped at times, but because she stays inside she's very cautious if she goes out. It took me quite a while to feel ok about the only inside thing as I grew up with cats who were in and out cats, but after our last girl was killed on the road we made the decision to keep her inside. You could do the lead thing and over time he would know the drill. They are very good with being indoors only, they sleep apparently 16-18 hours a day so they are perfect indoors pets anyway. It also means they don't get fleas, into fights and kill wild life so I think it's a good arrangement.

I take one of mine out on a lead too! He loves it. It is a very slow walk though, usually takes us an hour to do a lap of the house He wants to sniff every. single. leaf.....

Yeah, I'd be careful with the balcony thing hon. I know if I lived in an apartment I wouldn't let my girl out onto a balcony. She jump, I'm sure of it....

@Charlie74 yes thats what Ive learnt. My friends husband has a gene for muscular dystrophy that they specifically went into IVF to eliminate, as their first born son had this. They had no idea the husband had this gene till both were tested after their son's diagnosis. Their IVF journey didn't end with success. It was very hard to 'discard' the embryos that had this gene, knowing how amazing their son was. Huge ethical and personal position to be in. Huge..
