Default iPad protective cases - recommendations?

We have had a Griffin Explorer case for about 4 years and after many drops/throws from DS, it's finally broken!

I need to replace it obviously, but I'm not sure I want to spend $60 + again. Is there a cheaper protective cover anyone can recommend? Would need to withstand drops and the occasional throw.

ETA: iPad is about 4 years old, so I think it would be an iPad 1 (?)

All 3 of our kids have otter box covers on their ipad mini's.

They are awesome, fully enclose the ipad and screen, too hard for kids to remove themselves

It's really hard to find cases for first generation iPads I've found. Interested to know whether any of the recommendations are for these ones.

I have a cheapie from China (eBay) it was $12 or so and my iPad has had its fair share of throws and drops and its still surviving, for the kids I have a griffin and honestly I can't see the difference except the price and the cover saying Griffen

Yep, I think it could be an issue.

I'm considering 'fixing' it with gaffer tape. I don't know how long the iPad will keep working for, so it's a risk to spend a lot on a cover that we won't be able to use when we need to replace the iPad.

It's probably an iPad 2 at a guess if it's four years old? Mine is about 3 years old and it's a 3rd gen. That may make it easier to find a cover? I have a speck case and like it, but it might not be so good for rough treatment. I've also heard good things about otter box, also life proof but I think both these brands are on the expensive side. You may find a second hand one on eBay or gumtree for cheaper though?

Ask on your buy sell trade page, people usuallt get rid of them when they update devices
