I thought it was an unbalanced presentation . They should have fairly presented both sides - the good and the bad. Speaking for my own experience my FS has always been very clear about the very small chance of success at my age of 42. In fact sometimes I've felt like saying - ok that's enough stop telling me that because I'm still going to try anyway regardless of the small chance. I don't believe clinics want women to go through failed after failed cycle . Clinics want successful cycles as success is their best marketing tool.

We didn't watch it. Dh made a comment on an ad for it and it sounded like faulty logic/bad journalism to me. Sounds like we made the right decision to skip it by the number of people who responded angrily to it in this thread.

I couldn't watch it either. I saw the ad and it looked very unbalanced reporting.

I understand from someone the program said women who do IVF are high risk for cancer- that's controversial and a Cochrane review has refuted that last year, there's an older one also negative for ovarian cancer.

The study is here if anyone's interested, I didn't want other ladies going through IVF worrying about that, we have enough to worry about already.

My mum, who is a midwife, said she thought it was quite well balanced. She reckons I'm too close to it to appreciate it.

I'm fuming, so maybe I am.

No the show! All these ladies saying they had no idea they had very low chance....and of course your chance can be better determined after seeing if your getting embryos etc....

Would like to see the general opinion of the show then @lileitak although I guess 90% of the people tuning in will have been in our position too.

I thought they made some excellent points, though i can imagine how absolutely awful it must be to watch for people currently going through fertility treatments because it was certainly one sided. I must admit a lot rang true for me and i only had a very short experience of ivf. The statistics they mention are for "live birth" and that is a very different statistic to the one used in clinics that i researched. They always told me the success rate of a cycle.
Even if you didn't like the 4 Corners article, surely most of us would be all for a more regulated industry wouldn't we? Not necessarily for making age limits etc but more for putting a stop to profiteering on the "snake oil" treatments as they called them so that we have evidence based options to choose from. And also to prevent clinics selling false hope to get us to buy into further rounds without being absolutely up front about statistical chances of a baby. I don't find that offensive at all. I also think long term studies into women's health after ivf and ivf children's health studies make absolute sense.

Drain on tax payers how? We spend a fortune on IVF. I work full time. DH works full time. 10 Failed cycles and nothing to show, except an empty bank account, yet day in day I see people who spit out multiple children to multiple partners who don't work aren't they the drain. Why should we work full time to support them and only them. We pay for our IVF treatments and our medications and all of our tests. I'm glad I didn't watch it now.

I agree with you. They only had women struggling with IVF to probably show the viewers who may be having fertility issues not to get their hopes up. But if we don't have hope when doing IVF we have nothing. Hope is what keeps us going and keep trying. Well, this is what helped me
