Yeah I know. Miss 9 wants to be so independent though.
I would leave it up to a life lesson and I probably would have let her get a smaller item like you did but not replace the card if I didnt have the money
Yep we did go all the way to the shopping centre via bus and it was meant to be just for that and some groceries. I gave her the $10 so she wouldn't be so upset.
I would replace it. Since I was with her and didn't notice either I would feel partly responsible as the grown up.
Yeah I actually do
Sorry I wasn't meaning to make you feel worse! Just saying that's what I would do.
I know you weren't.
I'd replace it BUT we have the money to do that, and it sounds like your cash is better spent elsewhere.
I think it's healthy for kids (and adults) to learn that they can handle disappointment. So I'd be kind and let her know that you're disappointed for her because you know how much she was looking forward to spending it. And maybe explain that you feel it's only partly her fault, but you can't afford to replace it. I'd probably also let her know that it's normal for kids to forget about things and that it's a parent's job to help which is why you offered to keep the card. (I wouldn't want her to feel irresponsible that she lost it - IMO the disappointment of not being able to spend it is enough.)
