No Synarel is different. It is used in a long down regulation cycle.
I had a couple of cycles using this protocol and had worse results than the short cycles.
Estrogen priming involving taking a dose of estrogen. I used 2mg if Progynova daily.
Do you know your day 3 FSH levels? Mine were high, which the Estrogen pills suppressed.

    Default Low / poor responders

So nello between day 21-28 you took 2mg progynova?

Thanks for that great info @Nello - I just completed my 5th cycle where there was only one dominant follicle at day 12 after starting with about 4 - I've never gone to EPU for only one follie. I just turned 45 & have had four natural pregnancies that all ended in miscarriage prior to attempting IVF. I have been tossing up whether to try one more cycle with my OE before going to DE, to see if I can get to two or three eggs to make it worth going to EPU. I've had three different FSs & been to see the best, but not done an oestrogen priming protocol so if I am going to one more cycle it's worth a go. Thanks. xx

Here is a link to some research on Estrogen priming. Results showed an improvement in quantity and quality of eggs collected in low responders. It worked for me.

From what I understand is the difference between down regulation (such as Lucrin or Synarel) is that these drugs suppress the normal cycle hormones in order to flare them up in a big bang at the start of the cycle which hopefully boosts the FSH concentration and number of follicles.
However Estrogen priming does not down regulate, just tricks the brain into thinking FSH is already being produced, so does not produce any extra FSH.
The problem with down regulation in low responders and people with low ovarian reserves is that it makes hormone response sluggish. When you slow it down, it's difficult to kick it back into gear. Estrogen priming does not slow anything down.

    Kind of confusing I know!

So can you clarify for me, in down regulation does the oestrogen priming with the 2mg progynova replace the pill/synarel etc is it supplementary?

    Hi Summer,
I'm so sorry for your losses. I couldn't image the grieve of going through 4 miscarriages. Your strength is remarkable.

I've seen 6 fertility specialist and none of them offered or mentioned Estrogen priming. When I asked, the FS said 'ok you can try' and wrote me the prescription.

I think it's success would depend on your ovarian reserve and number of antral follicles. I had 10 antral follicles at each count (these are the follicles that are ready to be stimulated at day 4-5) but could only ever get 2-4 to grow and mature. EP enabled me to get the dormant follicles to grow.
If you are going to try another cycle, you could give EP a go. It wouldn't hurt the cycle.
    Good luck

    Hi @Nello,

I read your posts with great interest about E2 priming. Thank you so much for sharing your experience!
I am exactly in the same case, poor responder, producing only 2-3 mature eggs, nothing to freeze. I have 4 failed behind me and about to embark in my 5th one.
Tmrw I'm seeing my FS to establish new protocol. She refused E2 priming last time I mentioned it saying that my lining is good, and that could hurt my cycle, therefore I don't need it.

Instead she put me on the highest dose of FSH which was useless.

I want to push for it again tmrw, I have nothing to lose at all and I'm ready to try new things!
Can I ask you what was your Gonal F dosage? I also read that E2 protocol might be continued during stim, but I understand you stopped after day 28 right?

I've been on DHEA for 2 months and hoping seeing results... Isn't too shocking for the body to stop it all during a cycle? Some just lower the dose from 75mh to 25mg... not sure what's the best...

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks again
