Default Morphology Scan at Healthcare Imaging

I will be going in for my morphology scan soon and I am so confused as in where should I go for it. I just called healthcare Imaging in Moonee Ponds , Melbourne. I was told that they do it and charge $80 for it. This seems less expensive compared to what I have heard from other clinics. Does anyone have any experience with them? I do not have private insurance. Or if you have any other recommendations, please feel free to leave a comment. Thanks in advance

The top end private places like the ultrasound for women charge a bomb. You get some back from Medicare but are still out of pocket at least a few $100. You get extra images, 3D pics and usually a video too.

The bulk billing places do what they need to do, you'll get some pictures but no video etc. but ultimately they all do the same thing medically with regards to the scan.

My morphology scan is 100% bulk billed.

Thanks a lot for your response. Do you mind sharing where did you get your scan ( if you are in Melbourne) ?

The reason why they charge a bomb is because they are specialists in only women's obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound, they are usually ob/gyns. The other places do a wide range of services and don't have a specific specialty 👍🏻

I second this - I went to WUMe at Freemasons in the city because they are specialists in the field.

The sonographer I had was amazing and kept me and hubby up to speed the whole way through the scan. The quality of their machines are also much better. It costs $350 with around $100 back from Medicare. In my opinion it was money well spent.
Additionally these sonographers being specialists are able to advise at the time of the scan if there are any concerns, where as healthcare and others are not able to. You then need to wait for ur doc apt to get the results.

I went to healthcare for my dating scan and they were great for those early scans and bonus being bulk bill.

Send me a pm if you would like any more details 😊

I'm not in Melbourne, I have gone through my local hospital and I-med radiology though.

When I went through SUFW when DP was pregnant we got the same message as at bulk billing places: your report will be sent to your referring doctor. This was when she lost her baby and the ultrasound showed fetal bradycardia. So we spent $375 on that scan and still had to wait for our referring doctor to break the news, whereas we could've spent $0 for the same outcome.

So for me personally, it isn't worth the extra. Also the morph was $550 here with about $300 back, and I don't want to pay $250 out of pocket for the only scan that is meant to be Medicare funded.

That's my personal opinion though, it's totally up to you. If the money's no issue, why not?

But ultimately they all have the same objective.

I am so sorry for your experience . I haven't really come across place that wouldn't charge me anything for this scan. Everyone that I have called up said they charge between $80-$200. One of the scan centers even told me that they cannot provide me a good service if they bulk bill. So disgraceful !

    That's terrible!

I was more than happy to pay last time (which is why we went there) but after that experience, nope!

Private ultrasound practices should actually discuss the results with you there and then by the dr.
