From memory, because it was almost 8 yrs ago, £10,000 plus the cost of the honeymoon. So that would be about $20,000 with current exchange rate.

20-25 000 from memory in 2008 in a town in Qld for about 85 guests. My sister spent similar this year in Bris for around 60 -70 guests. Ive included approx costs for both of us below

    Dress - both paid 1800
Reception was $40/head + $2000 bar tab + $500 for nibbles. I cant remember if there was a venue hire. Wedding which was at church and cost nothinf. Sis paid 10,000 which included ceremony
Celebrant: we paid 100 for travel costs, sis paid 500.
Flowers - $200 as a family friend did them. My mum did my sisters for her wedding recently. We went to the Bris Flower markets spent 150 on flowers and they were beautiful. The photographer couldnt believe that theu werent professional
    Photographer - 1000 (my sis spent 2000 I think.)
Bridesmaid dresses: i paid for my bridesmaids which were about 200. I paid for nine for my sisters which was about 170 i think
Cake : 250 for me, 450 for my sister.
Music: 400 for us for a sound system. 0 for sister because she used ipod and sound systen
Suits: 400 for us, 600 for sis
Cars: 100 for us, 0 for ais because we stayed next door.

My sister's wedding was one of the nicest I have been to, and the venue was lovely on the day.

$30k honeymoon - where did you go?

We really wanted to elope but my father said it would break my mums heart so we went ahead with a wedding but got married and had the reception in a bar. I just wanted a party not a wedding.

I had previously been a family lawyer when we got married so I guess that was also on my mind in terms of how much we spent.

We went to Europe for 12.5 weeks. It was amazing.

My mum didn't love it - she was the only one we told because I knew she would react the way she did! She didn't disappoint.

So we went on a New Zealand cruise with her for 17 days before that then flew off and got married the next day!

Even if we hadn't eloped, I have never really understood spending big bucks on a wedding. Each to their own, for sure. Some people would never spend that much on a holiday...

Wow these numbers are scaring me! DF and I don't want to spend over 8k. Not going to be a big wedding at all though so should be able save money but oh my god. Maybe I'm not thinking big enough 😨

Yum! My first house cost less than your wedding, but I would have enjoyed being a guest!

Ours was $8k Max. We eloped to Europe, and spent time with family and friends in various countries before getting married about a week before coming home, in a small court building in remote Scandinavia. It wasn't planned but we somehow managed to pull it all together on short notice (and with limited I.D.!) Would absolutely do it again. I don't judge people who spend a lot more but that really wasn't our style, we would much rather spend money on other things like holidays, home, and other practical things.

DH and I wanted to elope...but we mentioned it a few years before we got married and our families were far from impressed. I'll be letting my kids know that they can get married however, and wherever they like.
Don't get me wrong, our wedding was great, but we def made changes to keep our families happy.
