Now, being an ex-smoker myself and having my Mum die from cancer caused from smoking, I'm all for anything that will help people quit, but I'm frucking pi$$ed off that a drug that is/was originally made for depression has to be purchased full price for that purpose however can be subsidised as an aid to quit smoking. WTF???

For me, this means I'll be paying $55 a month!!!! If I was in paid employment it wouldn't be so much of an issue, but I'm not and don't know when I will be due to being DD's carer as she's classed as Special Needs even though I get no Carers Allowance or anything as she hasn't formally been diagnosed and won't be until she's 3-4 yrs old. All we know so far is there is no medical (i.e chromosomal/metabolic diseases) cause for her issues. Things like autism take longer to reveal themselves/diagnose. So $55 is a lot of frucking $ for me atm

I'm wondering who the fruck do I see to try to get get the ball rolling on trying to get something happening to change this?? Surely some kind of special dispensation could and should be given to get an Authority for subsidised scripts for low income people or people who have tried a certain number of other meds with no improvement or for people who have had diagnosed depression for x-number of years etc.

Is it my Local Member I go to with my tale of woe?? I'm frucked if I know when it comes to stuff like this I'm so clueless so I thought I'd throw it out there to see if any of you Lovelies had any idea??
Bib...****ty situation! Could you perhaps 'fall off the non smoking wagon' in order to get access?
I don't know why everything has to be so hard sometimes. I hope you can find a work around.

@BlondeinBrisvegas, I second the 'falling off the non-smoking wagon'.

    Would your gp be sympathetic?

@bib I'd either find a bulk billing dr that will put it under pbs, or like someone suggested fall off the smoking wagon.

Do you have phi? Can you claim some of it through that?

As a stop smoking aid its subsidised on the PBS for 3 months in every 12 month time frame that you can apply to access the program.

@BiB I'd try what the others suggested, but also a letter/email to your local parliament member wouldn't hurt too. haven't they been rolling back some of those medicare/BT proposals recently? they might be in the mood to do more about medication on PBS.
