Munich (like everything) had good/bad points.

Good - the beergardens (and the food there!), the zoo (I rate it more than the Berlin zoo - and it has a beer garden next to a children's playground), the castles and parks. The clock thing is pretty cool.

Bad - don't stay near the main train station. Touristy/drunks/dirtier in general.

I tend to like the Bavarian lifestyle/food so enjoyed myself a lot.

Also, we tended to find food/drink were more reasonably priced than when you compare it to Australia.

We went spent some time in Salzburg and Munich over Christmas, I'd say cost wise Austria and Germany are similar, I haven't been to Switzerland but am told it is more expensive.

Christmas was amazing in Austria, one year we did Vienna then last year Salzburg both were great!
