    Default Building new home

We are at the early stages of finding a builder to build our family home. We have approached a few builders but we haven't actually got much out of them and one that was to quote us hasn't even bothered getting back to us at all.

We have one builder we are keen on that has given us some quotes and we have a meeting tomorrow. Are there any pertinent questions we should raise? We have a list of questions but I'm not sure what we could be leaving out. We are very new to this, I've been on the building forums but I'm keen on hearing any advice people have from here.

If u have specific wants make sure they're raised, things like kitchen cabinets going to ceiling instead of dirt dust gap. Type of skirting boards . Outdoor inclusions, driveway. Fixed contract? Penalties for going over. Admin costs for variations. With bank cost of valuations progress payments , interest on non drawn money as go along and if there's an offset on ur building loan.

Make sure you do the a HIA contract
    Read it properly
Do a full check on the builder
See if the builder is a member of hia or master builders
    Don't give money up front
    Always get 3 quotes
    Do your own research
If you can choose your materials, tiles, taps, etc
Your allowed to have choose on your tradies but it can be confusing, like if you have your own electrician, tiler etc.

There is a really good building forum. Lots of blogs too. Don't build with Eden Brae..... That's my two cents.
We just did and I regret it
