That is bloody good @hopefulangel1987!! Keep growing follies!!
I am so sorry to hear about that experience. It does sound weird - if they have already been stimulated, why not extract them? Higher numbers mean higher possibilities! That said, my gf in Canberra had the same experience with her clinic. She thought she had 6 eggs based on scan (I even told her that she might get a couple more because the smaller ones might catch up) but they only extracted 4 in the end. I can only think of a medical reason - that extracting all of them would be "dangerous" in some ways, maybe they weren't easy to extract based on location and if the Dr tried to hard, there are other risks such as hurting the ovary, etc (it is a surgery after all).
Big hugs for you hun... Try to get some rest, there's not much you can do and worry about now. I pray that you have 3 little warriors there and that they will all make it. Come on spermies, do your job now! Grow babies grow!
Oh @LillyM- sending you heaps and heaps of hugs hun
I just posted to @RainbowLorikeet that I am alot calmer now.. spoke too soon I think!
I'm agreeing with you hun and I would be sooo angry and mad as well if it was me. The fact that she didnt give you a straight forward answer is just BS. Any answer - be it too hard to get to or still too immature is better than 'we only take 60-70%'.. .. That means nothing to you...
I don't have any professional input to give you hun..
I can only think of 2 reasons for this
- it could be you have ovulated the 20mm already and the 13mm is still too immature to retrieve, hence leaving you with the 3.
-If you havent ovulated , then the only other possibility is that she didnt retrieve the 20mm follicle- I have heard that follicles over a certain size ( dont know what Primary's cut off is) they wont take.
As to the question- what happens to the remaining eggs in your body? well they go through atresia ( die off) and follicles that were retrieved will form the corpus luteum that then goes on to produce progesterone to support your lining and embryo etc.
Dont rule yourself out off a day 5 transfer just yet hun- it all depends on how well the embryos grow this time round. Are they doing ICSI?
Thanks for the support girls!
@tjuls, yeah it makes sense what you're saying... In 1 sentence u made a million times more sense than she ever did!
Anyway it is what it is, nothing we can do but yeah, I need my Doctors to give it straight to me to trust them. I mean we deserve to know! It's serious business here...
Yeah we're doing ICSI and she told us herself that it would be a 3 days transfer due to low number. Story of my life.
I think @tjuls can almost get qualified to be a FS! Career change, Dr Tjuls?
Agree that that's an awesome and logical explanation!
Rest up hun @LillyM. I honestly don't know which is better or worse. My gf in Canberra had 4 eggs retrieved, 3 fertilised and they waited 5 days for a transfer and it didn't work for her. Of the 2 left, 1 made it to freezing. I was very surprised that given her low numbers, they did a 5 day transfer instead of a 3 day. Would 3 day transfer be a better chance since it's theoretically better for beanie to be back in your oven quicker?
Don't think too much about it hun, i know it's easier said than done but I will pray for a good ET on Monday for you!
Big hugs @LillyM, I'm not sure if this helps but I only had 3 eggs collected (was told at my last scan that I had 4 on one side and 10 on the other but wasn't told sizes etc) and had a 3 day transfer (2 fertilised) too! I wish the Drs could give us more answers as to why they couldn't get more if they were there for the taking but I guess if they leave the small ones to help with progesterone then that makes it a little easier to swallow. Our 2nd fertilised egg didn't end up being suitable for freezing so we're feeling extremely blessed that our little warrior emby stuck and we're now nearly 18 weeks pregnant!! I so hope you have the same outcome and have the other ones to freeze too!! 😘😘😘

I agree @LillyM - they really need to give it to us straight. It causes more anxiety to NOT know than to know. Knowledge is power and if it doesnt work the 1st time, 2nd time, then we need to KNOW so we can at least track the 'progress'..
Take it easy hun- recover, recuperate and prepare for ur babies to come home in 3 days time. There is nothing wrong with day 3 embies- they can be as successful as day 5 blasts. I know your experience tells you otherwise but NEW CYCLE, NEW WARRIORS!!!
@VickyP- you are very funny hun .. No career change here thats for sure. I'm sorry to read about your friend in Canberra. Who knows what policies clinics have regarding embryo transfers. Different clinics have their preference but make exceptions here and there. I just hope she gets to have a say in when she wants the transfer given her failed cycle.
Praying for sticky icky embies @LillyM
Thanks heaps ladies, it feels very good talking to you and having your inputs. It is such a journey...
@MissTilly can't believe you're still around! Of course it helps a lot remembering your story, exactly what I need atm... Cos sometimes it really feels like all hope is lost...
Thanks for being so supportive.
I'll be fine, I just didn't see that one coming, that is all. I guess I needed to unleash lol.
So far, what Aisha was telling me I could count on based on the scan was 100% accurate so didn't expect that at all. And for crappy responders like me, numbers is a hard battle.
I just need to process and I'll be ok. Just hoping do hard for decent news tmrw... ****ting my pants!
Thank u so much again for being here <3
We are always here for you @LillyM and for everyone. This is the best forum group ever! Hang in there and we will all look forward to good news tomorrow! So good to hear from you @MissTilly! Every time you pop around, it's so great to hear your stories and be motivated by your positive outcome! Wow 18 weeks, time is flying (but not quick enough for me), congrats!
PS: Now i can see why the Drs and sonographers are reluctant to give information. :P Other than wonderful Aisha, all the other sonographers wouldn't have given numbers of anything - guess that's one thing they want to avoid, telling us one thing and then Drs contradicting another.

Finally got the call - transfer is on Monday at 3:15pm 😊
I love Aisha - we share the same name so she is always so kind and caring to me and always makes sure I'm good and that everyone is treating me nicely.. Wish everyone we encounter during this process was like that!
