We don't pay 50% on personal income tax hehe
    People wouldn't be too happy!!

Where tax differs is on labour. If a French company pays its workers $50k in gross salary, they'd pay another $50k on labour taxes.

But yes we don't have private schools only private religious schools like here.
However I'm not sure education is much better in France than in Australia. Probably more equitable though and a lot more easy to manage for working parents 😂

Well I guess that's one thing Australia does have right...school hours that are manageable for kids. Any more hours would be a nightmare for teachers here. They have families too!

I would rather my kids only have a 25 minute break than finish school at 5. That is not sustainable.

Do you have children in school yet? What hours do you propose?

I found it really interesting that Finland, who is kicking our butts, have the shortest school days in the world and the shortest duration of days in a calendar year. 6 hours is more than enough imo.

Im not proposing anything, ppl seem more than happy about the hours here.

But yes the French community here would prefer 8.30 to 4.30 with a proper lunch break and a canteen. Believe in it so much that we are trying to create our own school 😊

Off topic but has the German school in north Fitzroy survived?

    Most schools have canteens.

Hopefully you can find some French teachers to work at your school because I certainly wouldn't want to start teaching at 8:30 and not finish until 4:30 I currently live 50km from my work and that means I would hardly ever see my kids working those hours and wouldn't have any time to take them to dancing, girl guides, swimming lessons, football training, etc. even if I lived 10 mins from work.
