    Default Melbourne Fertility Specialist?

Hi ladies, I'm a bubhub newbie, 37yrs old and been ttc for 14mths now with no luck About to head down the fertility specialist route in Melbourne and feeling so anxious about who to see. I understand you're not allowed to discuss specific specialists in an open forum but are members allowed to msg with their views or recommendations? I've had so many sleepless nights over this (tonight being one). I have a specialist booked at Monash IVF (Nick Lolotgis) and another at Melb IVF (Karen Paice). I've been reading doctor Google and feeling very confused. Any help would be really appreciated!!! Thanks

Hi @Flowerpop, it might be a good idea to try to narrow down what sort of specialist you are after (if you have a diagnosis yet). Ie immune issues, male factors, pcos, endo etc. You may be able to get a recommendation based on that.
Otherwise it will probably come down to personality and what you're looking for in a specialist.
Good luck with your search, you can always meet with a few more till you find the right fit

This is a very subjective question IMO. Different people want different things from their FS (bedside manner, personal attention) and some people are happy to get results.

I'm with Lynn Burmeister at Monash. I went to her as my GP at the time had heard her speak and said she was great. (This was pre Sonia Kruger). I got in on a cancellation in a couple months, and we were successful our first IVF cycle.

Personally, I felt Lynn took the time to review my history, did her own analysis of me and DH and booked me for exploratory surgery to check me out inside. During surgery she found my tubes are badly damaged, and gave me the option to fix them and try naturally, or go right to IVF. Given my age (34 at the time) we went straight to IVF.

There is a thread on her, and a lot of people feel commoditised by her, and Monash. She is very busy and some feel rushed, then palmed off the busy nurses. I didn't mind that so much, likely because we got results. If we were 5 cycles in with no baby, i'd probably be bitter.

There are likely more doctor specific / clinic threads. I'll try to find the links.

Good luck! And don't settle for a FS you feel isn't listening to you!

Edit: Here is an old one on NL
    http://www.bubhub.com.au/community/f...r-Peter-Lutjen

I can't find any on Karen, or the clinics, but scroll through the IVF and non-IVF forums, and you'll find people I'm sure who've used them.

I've just seen Dr Nicole Hope. She was really lovely. We've only had 1 appointment so far but she was happy to answer all my questions and didn't make me feel silly about any of them. The office is really easy to get in contact with and she works out of a few different hospitals.

    @MUG81
I have been seeing Karen since 2013, I like her she's too the point, no muck around
explains things if I need them and also writes everything down for me so I don't forget - like take this tablet for 7 days than take this for x etc etc

she also fits me in at short notice if needed

i started seeing her in 2013 for pcos treatment
then again in 2016 for fertility treatment

she also isn't too expensive, however I don't go through Melbourne IVF I see her at her private rooms in Fitzroy

she he has a web page for u to see as well

i have been seeing FS to treat pcos since 2003 - and I've seen them all
my fav was Karen Paice, Rachel knight and Kate Stern - all extremely lovely and helpful but also very upfront and honest

Thank you so much. kP will be my first visit to an FS and I feel better knowing your take on her approach. I'm a little scared (also excited we might progress our TTC journey!)!
