Default Menapure & Omnitrope for egg quality? Double injecting egg? Extended egg culture?...

    Hello 😊

We are about to try our second round of IVF at the start of my next AF (due 18th).
We didn't get any viable embryos for freezing in our Jan cycle but implanted the healthiest two of the three survivors and gave it our bet shot but BFN. We are trying a few new things this time around as this will be our last fresh cycle. I'd love to know if anyone else has tried these approaches and whether it helped?

I had a phone consult with my FS on Friday. Given our poor embryo quality and development last time, she's switching us from Gonal to Menapure, which apparently is more natural. Has anyone tried this?

We've also selected to add the extra growth hormone injection, Omnitrope. The FS warned that research last year indicated it's not as effective as first thought. And it's $150 a shot. Has anyone had success with it?

She's also chosen for us to have double micro injection for 50% of our eggs. Has anyone had this done?

Also, she'll be using an extended egg culture media to encourage egg growth. Anyone had luck with this?

Before she ended the conversation she looked at my MRI report from last year and mentioned a small patch of Adenomyosis, which they weren't worried about last time, but this time, given it will be our last fresh cycle, she said we should try the hormone suppressants. She gave me a few options and I decided that we'll have the retrieval, then go on hormone suppressants and have a frozen transfer 6 weeks later. So, a long cycle. However, I'm having second thoughts, and if we get several viable embryos, Id like to implant a fresh one. Then if it doesn't take, try the suppressants before frozen transfer. Am I being too impatient? Would love some advice!

I should have mentioned that I've also been taking CoQ10. Is there any other approach that people have found to improve egg quality or embryo development?

Sorry for the long post and long list of questions! Would really appreciate any help! 😊

Sorry you have had such bad luck with cycles, I feel your pain though!

I have had a few cycles with only 1 half decent embryo to transfer and none to freeze. They all resulted in a bfn.

I have tried menopur and honestly it was probably my worst cycle. It didn't work for me.

The cycle I did get my BFP with a fresh transfer and had 2 to freeze ( which resulted in a bfn and a blighted ovum) I took coq10 and Royal jelly.

Have you thought about DHEA? It can improve egg quality but they say you have to be on it for 3 months to see any effect

Sorry I can't help you with any of the other questions. Good luck to you😄

@two souls 😊 Thank you for your reply. I'm sorry you had a hard time too, it sounds like you got a happy result in the end? That's concerning about the Menapure. Were you on CoQ10 that cycle? I haven't heard about Royal Jelly before, how does it work? What hormone did you take the round you got a BFP? I'd heard about DHEA but my FS dismissed the idea, I think she may have said it was just fish oil? Where do you find it? Sorry for more questions!

Yes I did get my DS from that cycle I was very lucky.

I wasn't on any extra vitamins with the menopur cycle once that one was a disaster I started looking into what else I could do to increase my chances.

From memory I think I was in gonal f and cetrotide but I'd have to double check. That cycle was the cycle I started taking coq10 and Royal jelly. Royal jelly is meant to help improve egg quality, it's what the worker bees feed the queen. I'm not allergic to bees so I thought why not give it a go.

DHEA as far as I know is used to increase egg quality and good for people with low ovarian reserves. I had to get a script from my dr for it. I have only just started taking it as I'm having a FET in a few months and am willing to try anything to have a chance of it working!

I can't read and not comment. In a rush here....I have the opposite experience. I was on gonal the first cycle but poor response so did menupur the second round. Well, I was still not a good responder but slightly more eggs. 8 vs 5 mature eggs. I was on a lot of vit for the second cycle, though. Coq10, Royal jelly, melatonin, vit E, vit D (deficient in my case) etc. maca root before not during the cycle. I also have some other immune issues which were addressed by drugs during the cycle.

Yes DHEA might help. It is a hormone that you inject during the cycle. I haven't heard about the other injection (into the eggs) that you fs mentioned. Ask about embryo glue. It isn't a glue but it is a similar chemical that one finds in the lining.

    Good luck.
    Ps: my menupur cycle worked.

Hi ladies, I was just wondering how long you took CoQ10 for before doing a stim cycle? Also did you take the ubiquinol form of CoQ10? Many thanks.

@two souls and @bbhope thank you so much for sharing about Royal Jelly. I'd never heard of it for IVF. Were your FSpecialists ok with you taking it during your cycle? I will definitely ask about the DHEA again. I hope it's not too late to add it to my plan.
@bbhope That's a relief about the Menupur! I guess it goes to show that every person responds so differently. I'll also ask about the glue - thanks for the tip! Congratulations on your BFP?!
@Lovebubs77 I've been taking the CoQ10 capsules since I had no luck with my January cycle. Fingers crossed it works! I didn't know it came in different forms?

Last time I'd also been taking Inositol powder, which my Physio (who happens to also specialize in Women's Health and Chinese herbs) said would improve egg numbers and quality. I got 12 eggs last time and 9 were mature/fertilized. My trouble was their development. My FS has pushed me not to take any herbs, so I've stopped the rest but I'm reluctant to give up the Inositol. Has anyone else ever taken it?

Yes, every person responses differently. I was so afraid about using menupur because i didn't hear much positive stories about it.

I didn't know that there is a different form of coq10 either. I just took the pill form bought from the chemist for many months. I had a long gap between cycle testing various things. Royal jelly is fine to take during the cycle. TMI: i found my CM became so white egg during O time when i wasnt stimming, which i didn't have it before. Maca root isn't good to take during the cycle. It is for balancing the hormone. You dont' want that during the cycle. My acupunturist didn't encourage me to take the herb that she gave me during the cycle. I was already on a lot of meds and she didn't want to have the extra stuff which might mess with the stim drugs.

According to my acupuncturist who has a masters in reproductive medicine there are 2 forms of CoQ10 - ubiquinol & ubiqinone. Most CoQ10 is ubiqinone but apparently ubiquinol is the form that is more easily absorbed by the body & is the recommended form if you are over 25. I haven't taken it but I am considering it if we have to do another stim cycle.

Yep, that is correct. Your body will not result absorb ubiqinone so ubiquinol is def the way to go. Some of the cheaper ones at the chemist are ubiquinone so it's a good idea to check.

You basically need to take CoQ10 for 3 months to make a marked difference to your egg quality.
