    Default Asthma or something else?

I have had asthma since I was little however it is mild. Generally it presents as a stabbing pain under my collar bone and not much wheezing. I usually only present with asthma once every two years or so and it appears at a season change. My last attack was a decent one where I was put on steroids as well as a preventer etc at the end of last year.

Anyways, last night I had horrible stabbing pains on my whole right side of my ribs (collar bone down to the bottom of my ribs) for at least 30mins before I eventually fell asleep. I took ventolin but it didn't make it go away.

I'm 19 weeks pregnant. Does this sound like asthma? If not, what else could it be? Heartburn is down the middle I assume?

I've never felt stabbing pain when I have asthma attacks - more like someone's squeezing the life out of me but I'm guessing everyone has different experiences.

I did suffer terribly from heartburn/ reflux when pregnant and it definitely caused me pain in the rib area and behind the shoulder blade. Can you try some mylanta or gaviscon and see if that helps?

I'll have to get some to try. It was about 3 hours after I had eaten. Didn't matter if I was sitting/standing or lying down.

It's worth a try. I used to get it both standing and lying down. I found sleeping on my left side helped. If it persists I would make sure you let your health care provider know.

    Best wishes!

    Gallstones?

They can develop during pregnancy and cause stabbing pains on the right hand side of the body. Under the ribs and shoulder blade are common places for the pain to occur.

The pain coming on about 3 hours after you have eaten and not being comfortable in any position also fits.

I would see a doctor about it.

So I just asked mum (she's had it before) and she said my pain doesn't sound like it.

I also have never had stabbing pains for my asthma but mine sounds more severe (steroids/preventers daily)

At 34wks with ds I ended up in hospital with awful, debilitating pain in my right side. Maternity hospital couldn't find anything but then ended up again in the ed having morphine. Bloods and scans ordered as they thought it was gallstones. Thankfully it wasn't, still unknown what it was. Worth a check regardless given you are pregnant

I'll get it checked if it happens again.

My first thought was gallstones, I had stabbing right side rib pain with mine. I didn't get the full on feel like I'm having a heart attack feeling that others describe to me. The other pain I had sometimes was like a pressure feeling between my ribs about four fingers below my sternum.
