    Default Hearing Aids

I was just wondering if anyone here has hearing aids. If so what sort. I am getting mine fitted on Monday and am freaking out that I will look stupid and have trouble adjusting to them. Some advice would be great.

sorry hon - I dont wear them... so I'm not really much help!

I do know that these days the aids are a lot more discrete.... ie less likely to be noticed by others - as someone who knows (basic) sign language.. I am always on the look out for people signing and half the time it takes two or three looks before I notice any aids...

and I know that they take time to get used to (my deaf friend in uni refused to wear them... she found it all too confusing!!!) - as it amplifies the sounds BEHIND you as well as around you...

I guess I just wanted to say good luck!! I hope Monday goes well... and I'm sure after a while you wont even notice them anymore!!

    ((hugs))

I don't need them but am studying AUSLAN and Deafness Awareness at TAFE. Several people in my classes have told me that it takes a few weeks to get use to them eg, different sounds, volume, background noises and the feeling of having something in your ear.

The majority of them say after you get over the first few weeks they're great!

Just stick with it. And don't worry about people staring at your hearing aid... people are stupid!

Good luck with it all! Let us know how you get on!!!

    Hi,

I am profoundly deaf, need to wear behind the ear hearing aids. I need to purchase new ones in the next 12months but at $8000 they aren't cheap! Yeah I have the same concerns as you, but I imagine that it will take time and we won't notice the difference.

So my advice to you is to give it time, if you aren't happy try a different model?
