I think both primary and high school are equally important - it depends what exactly the negative talk is about from the other parents - I've been looking at schools with my SIL who just moved into a new area and she is tossing up between the local public ( small but seems nice with a good reputation but no extra curricular activities or sport offered) and local catholic ( bigger school but offers more) and is leaning towards the Catholic only as it guarantees entry into their high school which is really hard to get into apparently and the local public high school is not so good - but she says at least if they go Catholic first they are guaranteed to get into the better high school and if things do change like pp says then she can change them but she can't do it the other way around

It depends on what you want, really.

I think primary school - especially the first few years - is critical to a child's education. It sets you up far more than high school does. Unless, of course, connections are your aim. In which case your high school is probably more important.
