@Tahli you can only get reduction in stanp duty if property is under 600k. Seriously where can you find a place with decent block in melb for under that????
We are renting so it's not an option for us to draw down on a home loan unfortunately. No matter, we'll figure it out somehow. I'm STILL waiting on a phone call back from my clinic with a rough cost estimate. I did call them yesterday and told them I had an appointment to discuss financing at the bank. A rough estimate would be so helpful, lol.
Does anyone on here have any idea of what we might pay OOP for a donor cycle, including transfer into me afterwards? I have to factor in potential travel/accommodation costs for my donor also. An estimate of $xxx max would be fantastic, and something for me to go on
Maybe 6-8k. My normal own egg cycle is around 6k out of pocket.
Yes, absolutely hon. Any way we need to do it we will. That's why I was thinking of applying for a loan in our joint names. DH definitely is the major breadwinner here and I think I will need his name on it to get us over the line. I am only part time and this is a quiet time of the year in my industry so my wages are lower now than what they will be after June. I am considering looking for additional part time work to fit in around my primary job too. Years ago I used to do a bit of hospitality - waitressing etc. I really enjoyed it! We have a lot of services clubs up our way so maybe there's an avenue for me there. Even if I only got 2 hours a night for 2 nights a week, that would still be an extra $60-$80 a week in my pocket. It would probably cover the loan repayment!
Our local bakery was advertising for someone a few weeks ago too.
I would want All. The. Cake.
Really?! Are you serious?! I was thinking it would be WAY more than that! I don't think you get the Medicare rebates if you're doing a DE cycle. We thought we'd be looking at $15K or so!
Gosh I hope you're right!
ETA: We paid $6,500 for our last stim cycle. That's the OOP portion, after Medicare rebates. It also includes a night's accommodation, fuel, hospital fees for DH and I and the anaesthetist.
Our clinic charges me about 9k i get about 5k back from medicare and my specialists fee is about 800 out of pocket. We have top hospital cover so no cost there.
So I was talking to my Dad on the phone last night. He was asking what we'd been up to so I started telling him all about our DE plans, and said that if that was not financially viable we would look for donor embryos.
He said (and I quote) "But then it wouldn't be your baby. I don't know, it would be someone else's child, not yours."
Sigh. My Dad is 76 and it's a lot for him to get on board with I suppose. He doesn't get it. I told him that if we used DE it still wouldn't be genetically mine but he reckons "Yeah, but at least it would be half DH's." He baulked when I told him the money we were looking at borrowing too ("What does DH think about that?") I am just going to try and forge ahead. Hopefully he'll come around to it in due course.
It did make me nervous though. I've only heard good things about ED but I do worry that I will find a donor who is generous enough to make an offer, only to go on and either not carry through with it, or produce a dud cycle. It's a big risk....
