Thanks for the replies. You know what, I think I'll report them. The driver so blatantly tossed the butt, it was still smoking when it rolled away, kind of made my blood boil to see it. Stuff 'em. I'm doing it.

I'd report it to the epa and police. That's so flipping gross and dangerous!

Someone I knew years ago got a fine in the mail for throwing her cigarette out the car window, so from what I can tell they do take it seriously. Good luck.

A few years ago my elderly chain smoking colleague received a fine for throwing his lit cigarette out the window. He was furious. But he said he never did it again. Lesson learned. I'd say report!

There are a number of fixed cameras on the Monash aren't there? Can footage from such cameras be used in instances such as these?

They can and they do. My husband had one last year. All you need is the rego and details of where the incident occurred pretty much and then they can choose to take it further and go to court if they wish to dispute it

    Default Should I report it?

In Victoria you can. A friend of mine got a $500 fine for throwing a cigarette butt out of her car window. On the fine it said that she was reported and where it was that she did it.

I did it! My good deed for the day. That person will hate me for it (even though they won't know it's me), but that's tough luck. Hopefully that's one less person out there who will never do it again.
