Default Carers payment and family assistance

Hi all. My husband injured himself at work 4 years ago and has had several spinal surgeries and now chronic nerve pain.

I work casually at the moment when my mum is able to care for the kids but much of my time is caring for him as he is basically bed ridden.

Im not sure if I'm eligible but I'm considering applying for a carers payment. How does this work with family assistance though?

I'll call Centrelink in the morning but just wondered if anyone else might be in the same boat?

    Thanks

Carers payment or carers allowance (can't remember which) is non means tested and doesn't affect Parenting Payments..

I am on carers payment for my son. It's $123 per fortnight roughly and from what I can work out its an additional, non-means tested payment that doesn't affect anything else

Carers allowance is non means tested. But you have to meet eligibility requirements.

Carers payment is means tested. Again you have to meet eligibility requirements.

Call the carers line at centrelink and ask them to help you. They are usually very good. Both can be very challenging to get.
