BH just erased my post. I will be back tmr to retype.

In the meantime, @Gelati baby Vick and vaporiser (I put minimal eucalyptus oil only). I didn't want to use baby Vick but DS congestion was so bad. He had a hard time breathing.

@bbhope where did you run the Vicks? I have only cold air vaporiser will that work? I'm worried it'll make him cold.

He can't sleep at all. Awake every 20min. I think the congestion is quite bad all in his chest.

@Gelati: i ran the vicks in dS room. It made the room quite humid but i guess it made him breath easier. The steam itself didn't seem to do anything so i added just a few drops of euculyptus oil. Not too much because i read conflict report about the safe use of the essential oil. I also bought a bottle of vicks steamer inhalant liquid. I didn't use it because it is just way too strong. Just being caution of not overdoing it.

Wow....did you file a complain about the attack? Sorry to hear about childcare didn't work out for you. I totally understand that. DS only goes once a week and had caught the cold. He is only starting to get better. When I dropped him off yesterday, there was a pretty congested, coughing baby. I am afraid that DS is catching another one. He started with a bit of cough last night and this morning again. My friend told me that his son was sick non stop during the first year of childcare.

The childcare under work is very good. They have a long waitlist. One of my colleagues sent their kid there and can't say anything bad. I just feel bad for the current centre that they have made a lot of effort to get DS settled.
@Minib: I dont know how you do every 3 hrs feed. We found it so challenging in the past because it was extremely hard to put DS to nap. Sometime he even skipped his nap because 3 hrs was up. Not good. Even now that he is a better napper, 4 hrs is so much manageable for us than constant feeding around the clock. I thought your DD is feeding 5x a day now? That's every 4 hrs, no?

To be honest, i won't worry about feed play sleep. Sometime babies just dont nap that long. Then you just have to get them up to play again, feed, play and then sleep. DS is napping longer now, though. More like a normal baby! I have recently got a suggested routine from ngala for 6--8 months babies. I am actually surprised that DS more or less follow the suggested routine. We followed the ~4hrs feeding rule and everything just falls in place. We are led by him in the end.

DS appetite changes from time to time. Some night he doesn't need a night feed, some night he needs it. He wanted to be fed 180ml + solid + night feed 2 weeks ago but he hasn't been drinking more than 150ml + solid in the last few days. I put it down to 6 months growth spurt. He has only gained a bit of weight (1kg+) since December.

As for work, no one is going to admit that they treat women differently. It is all rubbish about promoting equality. They just make the assumption that I want to work part time and thus won't have time to contribute to the project while it needs to go in full steam. It is a very competative field. They can always find someone who is willing to do the work with less family life and less pay.

Omg @Gelati I can't believe your DS was attacked at cc. Did the carer not see it? That's awful. Yeah unfortunately that's what happen at cc - getting sick that is not being attacked. Most children I know get sick a lot during their first year at cc. It can be a weekly thing. They just pick up so much germ. I guess a lot of people say that's how they build immune system but so hard to watch when they are just little babies. It's so hard to watch full stop no matter how old they are. My DD isn't going to Childcare until she's about 18 months old. Mum will look after her when I go back to work part time. I am not stressed though. I'm out a lot these days. So she's been sleeping in the pram and car.

Which storage bag do you use to freeze your milk? So DD is now down to 5 feeds a day. 2 of which is formula. She sleeps so well at night I don't really want to change the 7.30 and 10.30 pm feeds. Plus I'm going to try wean off the DF in a few weeks anyway. So she's down to 3 BM feeds and by pumping 5 times a day I am producing more than enough. I am going to cut back in a weeks time but I thought until then maybe I can freeze my milk so when I stop pumping she can have BM for another week or so.

    How's his congestion @Gelati?
@bbhope I don't wake her up when she's sleeping. We used to always follow feed play sleep so it worked out to be around 3 hourly feed. The arvo one is normally 4 hours as she had a longer sleep. But now I don't do feed play sleep anymore. I put her down when she's tired so it could be play feed play sleep. She's finishing all her bottles now she's on around 4 hourly feed. She was on 6 feeds incl DF. Now on 5 feeds incl DF. And we want to wean off DF once solid is established so should be in a few weeks time.

We are now on almost like save our sleep routine. 7 am, 11 am, 3 pm, 7 pm and 10.30 pm feed. Sleep wise 1 hour just before 9 am, 45 mins just before 12 pm, 45 mins around 2 pm and another 40 mins around 5 pm. That's the last 2 days but not too sure. She's changing still and still unsure of her new routine.

The weight gain slow down as they get older is that right? That's what my MCHN told me.

I know. Most companies say they treat women the same but it can be very hard for women returning to work. My work is very accommodating but I'm unsure yet if they think I'll pop another baby out again next year so I'm just going to put my career on hold. My work actually has a very big gender diversity push so that's a big positive.

I forgot to say. I didn't know that starting solid is all about texture. I thought it is more about flavour. Lol. We are adding rice cereal for dinner and the texture can be alter by adding different amount of water. I have since adding less to make it more coarse.

I am not sure that I will be completely relax going back to work full time and have DH be the primary carer completely. He doesn't want to bring DS to playgroup because he doesn't want to socialise with any mom. He didn't feed him solid the other day because I forgot to remind him. Duh. I feel like DS is going to be so bored on the days that he isn't at daycare. Also, not happy that we will have to postpone sleep training again because the new daycare prefers us not to miss the care soon after we send DS there. Their intention is to have him settle in more easily if we continue the care for a few weeks. We won't be able to get into the sleep school until mid June which means da will be 8minths old. we r pretty much at the breaking point of no sleep at night.

@bbhope - how many days did it take ds to get over cold? Ds has been sick since tue and j don't feel like he is getting better. Day 5 today and fever still yoyoing between 37.2-37.8. Is that normal? I don't feel like the steam thing is helping at all. Panadol doesn't seem to help much but control his temperature. He is still lactose intolerant so can't have my breastmilk which means he can't get better faster it's so frustrating.

@Minib - I use freezer bags my cousin gave me but I also bought some avent ones but I've decided to give up breastfeeding. Ds still can't take my breastmilk and the milk is just building up too quickly and with him sick it's just too much effort so I'm stopping pumping and letting myself go dry. I'm sad but I think there's no other way given he can't take my milk anymore. It's been a long and hard journey and I've finally decided to give up. So glad to hear you are still doing so great with it. Keep it up mumma!

@Gelati I am pumping as I'm typing this but I'm counting down the days. I bought babies r us milk freezer bag. Cheap. 60 bags for $20 or 120 for $30. I only got the 60 bags but won't even use them all.

A friend told me must mums who BF beyond 6 months probably don't have issue BF. If we have to pump and top up etc, not sure if it's worth continuing. We have solids and that's quite a lot of work.

I don't know how you feel about this. But a paed nurse told me that panadol shouldn't be used to treat the temp or fever, it's more if the baby is miserable. She said fever or temp means baby is fighting the illness. By giving panadol, the body isn't fighting it fast enough. I know every baby is different though so you need to go with your gut feel too. Also she said its not necessarily how high the temp is, it's more how quick it rises.

They do recommend panadol if fever is higher than 38.5.

If I were you I would also stop pumping. It takes up too much time!! I am going to stop soon once we start on solid properly.

@bbhope does DH have any friends who's looking after babies too? Maybe they can start their own fathers group. Did you end joining any mothers group? Oh crap re postponing sleep training. No sleep for 8 months 😰 I don't know how you guys do it. Could you talk to the daycare about pulling DS out just for a few days? I'm just not sure which one is more important. Tough one.

@bbhope how does DS like the food more coarse?
@Gelati I forgot to say your poor DS. Haven't had a lot of luck since cc. CC seems more trouble right now at their age. And big hugs to you about stopping BF but you have done an amazing job to persist so long! Well done. Don't be too sad. DS is getting more of your time now which is even better 😀👍
