Genuine question. Are mortgage brokers ever independent? I thought they all work on commissions?

ha! had this very convo with dh last night re financial planners!

I feel he's getting charged an arm
and a leg for income protection insurance and the level of income is from about 7 years ago. scared to increase it to reflect his current salary as the premiums will double I'm sure 😐

of course, the advisor he uses recommende Zurich so we are limited to the providers she favours. and receives commission from.

the whole business is....I won't say crooked, but definitely skewed.

    mortgage brokers are the same.

I guess the best you can do is find someone you have good rapport with and trust.

I agree hun. I know a very large mortgage broking franchise and they receive the same commission from whichever bank the applicant chooses.... However, certain brokers have better relationships with certain bank reps so lean towards using those banks

I just got sent the commission structure from ours today. They do work on commission, because the mortgagor doesnt pay them. Ours gets the same commission from whoever of the 20 or so lenders in their database. They do have special relationships, for lack of a better term, with 4 or so lenders and yep the one we are going with is one of those special lenders. However they recommended a completely different lender to a friend of mine so I'm satisfied he's recommended the best for us

Good luck OP! Hope you find a good one!

We used iconic home loans twice now and have been very good at explaining all the fine print and working out the best deal for us without pushing towards certain banks.

Barry from the loans cafe is great. Based SOR (bibra lake I think) but he's always travelled to us when we've wanted to meet with him.
